Yes, it is for most phones. Make sure you have reports turned on, on your phone.

You can get delivered reports...that say when the SMS was delivered. But doesnt actually say that the text was read.

For instance, if they left there phone at home, they'd get the SMS on the phone but may not read it for another 4 hours...you'd only get a text confirming the other phone had received the report, not actually read the message.

You then go on to describe a 'read report' in the post.....:whistling:

cant see the point of "delivered" report as if it failed then the message goes to the outbox

You can get a read receipt...its called a response. How would your genius idea work? because the recipients phone would have to send a message to the network saying the SMS has been read, meaning the recipient has to pay to receive an SMS from someone who wants to know whether its been read or not.

And the delivered report is for when the message has been successfully sent from your phone...but not delivered to the other phone within a certain time limit. If it fails to send from your phone, it goes to the Outbox.

No, a proper delivery report comes from the network not the phone - if you send a text message to a phone that's out of range or powered off, your phone will show it as successfully sending as the network has picked it up correctly which means it will be in sent items, not the outbox. Then once the phone comes back onto the network, the network then delivers the message to the phone and sends the delivery report back to original handset.
