Is it worth asking Dell for compensation

I purchased a netbook from Dell Outlet. It arrived yesterday and could not detect any wifi networks. I spent over a hour on the phone with them until they decided that it was a hardware fault and they need to send a courier to pick it up. This is quite inconvienent and I was wondering if I should/if it is worthwhile asking for compensation. It seems really poor that they shipped the item faulty.

What do you think? Thanks.

ask and hold your breath until they sort it out

Thanks. To be honest, I hope that it is a relatively simple thing for them to fix. Just annoying.

Have you pressed the fn button and then the relevant wifi function key? To turn the wifi on :)
#5
Oh yes. Dell took control of the netbook and tried everything they could. Basically, the wifi card is either faulty or not connected.

OP - what is your loss?
#7
they won't give no compensation.
#8
Nah, I do not think they will. It just a bloody pain and they should do better.

Excellent. So how much do you think they'll pay out then?

They cant use the function keys whilst remotely connecting to it, what model is the laptop?

I'm an it technician and before I have thought the wifi card is broken but actually its because they now use keys rather than switches to turn on the wifi card.

You are right. Indeed, they can not. But they asked me to do it and it was on. They also asked me to check it in BIOS, and it was on there also.

Fair enough, its just I know ive been stumped for 30 mins or so before trying to work out why wifi isn't working!
#18
:D Yes, it has not occurred to me to press the function key before Dell told me to do so
#19
I don't suppose you can check what channel the wireless network is on? I have a Dell Mini 10v and it can't see anything thats on channel 13.
#20
Hmm... I could give it a go. I think that the problem was that when Dell tried to reinstall the driver for the wifi card it said that the hardware does not exist.
#21
you cant really be compensated for your wasted time if it hasnt meant you've lost out finanially. Have you lost anything but time?

Best idea is to ask for a discount on your replacement? No harm in asking
#22
No - only time. TBH - i do hope that they send me the original netbook not a replacement though

Why do people assume that tehy are going to send me a new machine and not just try to fix the old one?
#29
You will be lucky getting anything from dell, it took me weeks for them to admit there was a defect with the case and replace it.
