Unless you have 2Gb RAM or more don't even think about it. But even then I'd still stick with XP, Vista has far too many issues.

I would advise you to go to vista, I really like it, I havnt had any real bugs yet, everything is running smoothly and vista looks brilliant. I have vista running on my laptop, turion 64 x2 proccessor, and 1gig of ram and it works without a hitch.

this is exactly what i have got the compaq deal some time ago - some conflicting reports on here now though

Dont install it, had nothing but problems with it so far, sorted them out but its really slow on my new pc.

If your PC is up and running and working the way you like it, then why upgrade ?

Some things may not work in Vista. For example my TV card remote works ok in Media Center but will not work with Vista.

Short answer..... No

Long answer.....Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo.

Wait until Service Pack One is out then possibly look at the possibilities fo upgrading to Vista. For the moment, its not worth it.

many thanks for your replies i will keep it safe for now

Personally i say you should upgrade if your on normal XP at the moment and dont play games. If you are on media centre then i wouldnt as you dont really gain much except loose the speed of XP.

Personally i would be willing to downgrade to media centre, but that would require me to have a copy of it, which i dont.

I wouldnt go back to Windows XP ever since using Vista i find it a whole lot better , never had any bug issues....was worried it wouldnt work for my laser printer but i just connected the printer and it worked straight away :)

Not had one problem so far , only issue i have is its not as great as i was expecting.

I'm trying to get my hands on a legal copy of media centre at the minute, mainly because vista is slower and graphics drivers arnt all too good at the moment, especially for the 8800GTS i will be getting in a couple of weeks.

Not just me then, I wasnt blown away with the features either, it didnt make me go 'wow'. However vista seems easier to use, and its the same speed for me as xp was.

On vista myself, I agree the changes aren't fantastic. The Aero thingy that MS are always shouting about is nice looking, but I dont use it, because its easier to click on the taskbar.
I shall not be changing back to XP, cause it would only mean re installing Vista again in the future.
I actually prefer the look of Vista to XP, but thats all really, just the looks.
I didn't have hardly any driver or software problems, most software companies have vista drivers out now. The MS compatibility checker was spot on with mine.

Depends, if you need DX10 - I don't think there are any games about using it, do stand to be corrected here BTW, then you have no real choice. Otherwise, personally, I'd stick with what you've got.

If you enjoy a battle with conflicting software then vista is for you....great if you have all the latest expensive vista ready software and drivers but a pain in the butt when you find you load software only to find it doesn't work but will also refuse to uninstall.....having said that I've worked my way through most of the problems and it is now running reasonably smoothly.

Just dont install it its far more trouble than its worth

cheers to you all
