It curbs some power I though? But then when you saving nearly half in fuel, who cares about a 5% diffence in power?

It's far from simple, there is a lot of information out there about long term damage to engines (as much as pro-LPG people and LPG fitters like to downplay it) with the answer being that it is very engine specific.

All LPG miles you say:? BMW didn't make a dual fuel 318 so it must have been converted at some point.

As said above there has been some talk of engines wearing differently on lpg and the only way to check if there are no obvious signs would be to strip the engine into pieces for inspection.

If you are not looking for an lpg car and the car wasn't paticularly cheap I'd probably avoid it personally, it's not really a car that eats fuel (330i etc) but having said that if if had been converted and serviced by a reputable company (lpg service) and had a complete service history theres probably no reason it won't be okay for years to come.

A BMW engine should have six cylinders anyway, that 2002> four cylinder 2.0 is just wrong imo :p

You need to look on lots of LPG and BMW forums to get a rounded view, I would suggest.

My 4.2 straight 6 Camaro ran fine on it.
Dunno if it works on injection systems.

I just converted my 2.3 IES Honda Suttle to LPG and it is amazing - no loss in power whatsoever and my petrol needle has not moved and I have done over 80 miles on the LPG and that needle had not moved either

He said he went to work all week and the needle never moved.
We used to beg him for the petrol his car was making. ;-)

I had mine done on Saturday and it cost £1,000 inclusive apparently the person I used has people come from all over the country frequently as he is nearly halp the price of anyone else, I am so far, very very pleased with it, my needle has not moved and I am guessing my Honda Shuttle which did 22 to the gallon is doing more like 45 - 50
If you want information of who fitted mine - they are in a place called Ystrad Mynach in Wales, not far from Cardiff, he even lends you a car for the day, mine went in at 8.30 and I picked it up at 6.30, there was a person who had come from London the same day to have it done, I now no longer have to pay congestion charge when I go to London which is also a bonus:thumbsup:

yes but I am not running on petrol now . it is getting approx 22 to the gallon but I am paying half the price so really doubling my miles per gallon in effect :)
I put 80 litres in (of gas) and it and it cost me £40 (I now have a bigger tank)
for £40 with use of petrol I would get approx 220 miles
I now get 460 - 480 miles for the same price

Just out of interest, have you done a "propper" mpg test?
Start with a full tank and trip set to zero and next time you fill up do the sums?
I really would be interested to know.
Mind you, with my Peugeot 406 turbo diesel estate which did 52.1 mpg on a 350 mile round trip, fully laden....I'm not likely to be impressed. :-)

Dont forget, you will need a seperate LPG service on top of your normal annual car service ;-)

Just get a diesel - Performance, power & cheap to run!!!

Mine does 50-60 mpg, 200bhp & 330lb/ft torque :)

am in the middle of the test now and not yest half full and done as much as I used to on a full tank, so will see if the tank goes down quicker now, will let you know

I coudnt really afford to change the car and it is a lovely car, so this was the next best option and it seems to be good. I have to have a large car as I carry a wheelchair for my mother and she cannot get into a normal car, the Honda Suttle is quite high Aand she find it easy to get in an out of

Has this affected your insurance costs. If you insured as a petrol car I would have thought you would need to inform them of a modification. And they don't need too many excuses to charge extra. Has this happened in your case?
