Just been watching it pays to watch on five and as nice and genuine a man as he appears to be can't help thinking this man will end nearly every hot deal eventually after all I used to be able to stooge most of my morgage on 0% credit cards before MSE made it public, I used to be able to get 100% cash back on my mobile contract before company went bust as everyone caught on and how much longer will i get £100 plus back from my insurance once everyone goes through Quidco just to get to their original destination website are the general public really worth it Martin in my Experiance the more money you save them the more they will spend on some other keeping up with the Jones rubbish. Maybe i am getting to be a grumpy old in my day deal watcher but it seems more may indeed be less in this case

It will mean that people who already do all of those things will not get as good a deal as normal (e.g. codes will be 10% discount rather than 15%) because of the amount of people doing it

However, the majority of people are not aware of stuff like this and are losing a lot of £££ because of it.

I think it is better that a lot of people know about this sort of stuff, and maybe shops will realise that we are not going to be taken advantage of and lower their prices.

If you knew someone who did not know stuff like quidco, but telling them meant that you would get a little bit less (but they got a lot more) - would you tell them?
#3
Then there is people who are aware of making a saving but don't bother anyway.

i personally believe the guys a complete and utter %£$£ who now hes sold out to the tv and got all sorts of well paying contracts unless its what the media wants he hasnt got time for his roots.

He seems to think hes some sort of god like figure when alot of what he says is common sense........if you take a look and investigage things yourself.....cant stand him rant over

I agree that he has put himself before everyone else and MSE has suffered because of it, but wouldnt we all in that situation? Plus, a lot more people will benefit from it being on tv as they dont find sites like HUKD or MSE unless they search for them.

I think that Dominic Littlewood is better though, he has been on tv doing this sort of stuff for years, and I think the way he does it is better. He gives more explanation on how to do it, does instore haggling as well as online/telephone, which means that everyone can try. He doesnt seem to be rushing through everything and it all seems a lot more straightforward and easier to understand for people who are total novices.

someone on mse today was slagging him off, reckoned that because of the claim your charges back everyone will now lose "free banking", had to agree with some points.
Don't really mind educating the masses but overtly saving some people from themselves is against Darwinian theory
#10
he looks weird.... nowt else... but thats enough for me not to like him! haha...thing is people on MSE treat him like a god and its kinda cringe worthy reading their posts as well.

i like hukd, its simple, clean and easy to use... and our paul is a fine chap!

I agree with that, I have never had a bank charge and neither have my parents. Because of the banks being taken to court over these charges we may end up having to pay for our bank accounts. Although I dont agree with the bank charges, this is a lot worse as it affects everyone.

People are going to end up keeping it under their mattresses again!

No, here:

The redten customers were blamed for assuming that he ws aware of the situation. We had been told by his team that they would pass the message on for us a week before.

Yep ....totally agree ! It was his users that made his site popular NOT him.

MSE has almost died since he deserted his site and went to TV.

i agree though i think that charges in place are obsurd but surely "money saving" wud be running your account so ur not spending beyond your limits so i have no sympathy for anyone going into overdrafts etc

but i believe if the banks have to pay out like it looks likely in the end they will end up having to try and find away to re-couperate the costs....simple by putting a small charge 50p or so on cash machine withdrawels and they can do that as well they have to pay for the cash machines

Martin Lewis is doing so much more harm than good. He is such a smug git with it though, which annoys me even more. I have had bank charges, I went over drawn it's my fault for not managing my money properly.

His website is money saving expert. which part of reclaming bank charages or ppi is money saving, people choose to go over, by not manageing their accounts, so they are not money saving or experts.

I personaly feel that Martin Lewis is part of the money problem now, with him 'exposing' ways people save money, he is making it harder. Especialy with the credit crunch, he is destroying the only ways some people can save money. He really does need taking down a few pegs

For me its as simple as this who deserves the reward of the view people who climb Everest or people who pop to the top once an elevator has been installed only to ruin the whole mountain

Swings and Roundabouts i think.. some good , some bad.. But could this mean the end of all the DEALS ?? hope not.. he will be selling , phones , mp3s, lap tops , next....

Don't like him at all
He tends to nick quite of few of his 'ideas' from other sites, like for example the way he puts across he was the one who started the bank claims, obviously he hadn't heard of consumeractiongroup before he started his identical campaign.

This is a fact. many people I have told about quidco said it isnt worth the hassle despite the enormous savings. There are some dumb people out there.
#29
share the wealth people
all the deals arent exclusivley for a small number of people ..............
and leave martin lewis alone he is only passing info to the masses i think he is doing a good job it was through him that i found out about the consumer action group and was able to retrieve a nice little wedge from the bank.........:-D

It just seems sometimes that some people on here think that " there my deals and no-one esle should have access to them "

not the case people

Booooo to the man and his money making machine :-D
#30
Tarby, the fact is that when he tells everyone, the deals stop. Him pushing the case for reclaiming bank charges could have implications for everyone. if they start to charge for using cash machines it will be a night mare, some of us dont have time to get to the bank, due to having to work. If people managed their money better they wouldn't have charges to reclaim
#31
Isn't the whole point of a forum to share information and opinions? This forum shares information on savings and deals; if every person that got a deal sat on it with the opinion "If I tell someone else I won't get it next time" then it will be a poor "Hot Deal" forum. We all share information on here and there are 100000 users, just because Martin Lewis and MSE go to a national (Channel 5) TV audience who are we to criticise. He is just sharing information to a wider audience. There are probably more people registered on here than watch his program any way.

There are an awuful lot of people who talk about his ideas on loads of other forums and the like. If the banks can't charge the paid referal fees, then people are going to end up loosing jobs, as the banks wont want to loose their profits, they will just cut down on staff, close branches, and then a hell of alot more people than benefit from the refunds will suffer.

And to be fair, with alot of deals, people are selective in what they get, they will more often then not use the deals for things they acctualy need. which means that not every member applies for the same deals.

How much tax payer money has the court case with the big banks cost? whats going to be the overall cost?

not all banks are closing branches. I guess this is just going to speed up the process

i'd have thought that the internet would have closed more branches
#36
people still use branches for with drawing money, paying cheques in, there is still a need for banks, but the fat cats in charge of the banks will just stick to having branches in big towns and cities, and the smaller local branches will close to compensate

The point of this forum is to share deals and even information with like minded people Lewis just floods it out and the real deals end sounds selfish i know but some people if they have a tenner in their pocket are going to spend a tenner no matter how much you save them.
