Is my freeview box dead?

Hasnt been used in about 2 and a half months though my flatmate used to use it.

went into the living room and turned it on and it said no signal.

tried moving cable since its a cheap poundland one which the metal keeps snapping.

Still nothing, it works in analogue though.

So I reset the box to factory settings anad in the last 30 minutes its only scanned about 3% of the channels!

Signals great in area, analogue gets perfect even for channel 5 in fact we have 6 channels for some reason

Was cheap, was £25 in a sale but a lot of stores still sell it for £50 or £60 since its a sentana one

try the hard reset, should be a button on back ..... try a different aerial ?

Well I took the aerial wire out the back, unscrewed it and checked it was ok, took the power cable out of box for a few minutes and put back in, then it installed channels fast but 30 were missing, inc all the itv channels,e4, filmfour etc.

And the channel order was messed up ie it gave me the bbc channels then went into some radio, back to dave, then a few more radio then virgin1 then a few more radio, then back to dave again!

Tell us the make/model of Freeview Receiver, some have been made obsolete by some upgrades.

Daewoo is one brand that has been effected, there are others.

Sounds as though the box is ok.
You need an external aerial and a good cable, my f/v box used to do the same i had 3 breaks in the cable i.e. connections. but when i replaced the cable Blam all f/v channels at 100% signal strength

It is an external aerial and was fine till now,and the analogue signal is perfect.

Plus in the other room the same aerial cable worked fantastic

Agreed, it sounds as if your receiver is OK, the aerial seems to be the problem.

That can happen sharing two sets from one aerial, one will get a weaker signal.

:? Surely thats your problem...

I tried cuting the metal and rescrewing in the coax metal and same channels.

Theres only one tv connected to the outside aerial though theres points in every room

The signals so good here that there used to be a 14" portable with built in aerial that got every channel analogue crystal clear.

The box seems to just freeze at one point of scanning the channels, so I have to pull cable out the back and put back in but then it gets like 45 channels

At one point it had 85 but still missed all the bbc and itv channels.

Sorted it! I hope so anyway I remembered that upstairs in the boiler cupboard is where all the cables pass through and last time I was here I moved some about.

Moved them back to their old position and now get all the channels!
