i sold an item on ebay, the buyer paid using paypal........

i then get this from paypal-

w. We've placed a temporary hold on the funds for this transaction.

eBay and PayPal are working together to make it safer than ever to buy on eBay. One of the boldest steps is to identify transactions that pose the greatest risk of fraud and holding the payments from sellers for a period of time to help ensure that the transactions go smoothly.

We'll release the payment for the eBay item if either of the following occurs:

The buyer leaves you positive feedback on eBay.
It's been 21 days since the payment date and you haven't received a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal on the transaction being held
Additional hold period

If you receive a dispute, claim, chargeback, or reversal on the transaction, we may hold the payment until the problem is resolved.

so let me get this right......
paypal expect me to send the item worth £800 without me getting a single penny- what a cheek!

and if the payment bounces- the buyer has the item and i lose the item and £800

surely this is not right?

the buyer is hassling me to send the item........

any advice? surely paypal cant expect the seller to ship the goods without payment.......

anyone had similar experiences?

cheers

Paypal put a hold on my money a while ago. It was a toy i sold so nothing major. they said the buyers was possibly fraudulant yet i sent to the buyers paypal confirmed address and the buyer left feedback for the item. This was two weeeks ago and the money is still on hold.
They do this all the time. Probably to place all the money on hold in their own bank and accumulate the interest on it to make their millions!

I would do exactly as paypal ask in their email. Make sure you send insured and trackable means of delivery and insure for the right amount then add all tracking details to your paypal payment page.

that's how thy make thr money, i mean thy keep that money for 2,3 days or even weeks n earn interest, :viking:

Paypal help online is an absolute joke.
The best thing to do is ring them direct and calmly go through it with them. I have called paypal many times and feel their help on the phone is really good.
Don't even bother with the live help. Louise (i think thats what they call her) is rubbish!

its not a spoof- ive logged into my acc and the payment is on hold

Paypal Do This, If You Havent Got Anything To Hide , You Shouldnt Really Be Affected.
#11
They also do it if you havent sold an high priced item before. Hasnt happened to me though as ive sold loads of items over £150.

paypal do this for new sellers and unusually high sellings.

Just send the item trackable means e.g, via courier such as dhl or royal mail special delivery.

Once the buyer leaves pos feedback, the money is released, or 21 days after the transaction and the buyer has started no dispute

Paypal already have the money, The way they see it is what if the seller is a fraud ?.You must not have a lot of feedback otherwise they wouldnt hold payment,

No, they don't! Stop spouting rubbish,,,,

Paypal have the money, the buyer cannot get it back without opening a dispute. As long as the seller follows the rules that it's sent via a tracked method then the seller will get the money.

Paypal will release the money once the buyer leaves positive feedback or there is no dispute within 21 days of the end of the ebay auction.

If the buyer opens a paypal dispute then paypal will keep hold of the money until the dispute is finished e.g item sent back etc

exactly ...... you need to prove yourself to be a decent seller. How many people do you think, signs up for accounts, then sells expensive items then never sends them ?

Paypal are trying to protect the buyers, Yes the system isn't perfect but it works

i have a score of 255 with 100% feedback.......

the buyer has score of 6 with 100%

no way on this earth will i be sending the item until the payment has been released- this is ridiculous

daylight robbery for the seller- what if the payment bounces from the buyers credit card?- the seller loses the item and doesnt have the payment......

anyway ive told the buyer he has to wait 21 days until paypal release the payment

paypal ought to be reported to the fsa or watchdog

i got this message from a seller recently, and i must admit i was a bit suspicious, but he was obviously genuine, i feel bad for thinking bad thoughts now..

I am really surpirised that they held payment if you have such good feedback,Unfortunately by using paypal you agree to there terms whcich includes the right to hold payment,If you really dont want to send the item you should contact the buyer and ask if they will cancel the transaction or try and get them to do cash on collection,
#25
Surely the OP will be protected by Paypal's Seller Protection scheme, if the payment bounces or the buyers account turns out to be hijacked (supposed to cover you against fraud up to £3250)¿ ?

You need to check that the buyers address is confirmed, if it is send to the confirmed address using a trackable courier then you will be covered by paypal. If the buyers address isnt confirmed then i would be wary. However you cant hold onto the item and not send til the payment clears as the buyer probably wont wait this long (i wouldnt) if you didnt post after 7 days i would be starting a paypal dispute against the seller then you will lose the money and get a neg feedback. I had this recently when we sold a ps3 for £250 and the git that bought it never left feedback when he got it so it took us the full 3 weeks before the money cleared, but it did clear.

did you not think to read the rules before you complain about something thats been happening for ages now?

You should send the stuff, the buyer has paid, if you don't you won't get the money. If you don't, you will most likely get a neg and a strike too, and rightly so.

Don't understand the comment about the credit card payment bouncing, that could happen if the money was released straight away anyway, so fail to see why it would make a difference in this case, unless you weren't going to send for 100 days anyway to be sure there was no chargeback.
You have seller protection for that anyway.
