Is smoking a cigarette every other day still bad for you ?

Had a rough month or so and smoking a cigarette in the evening is calming for me. I was wondering if it still has a bad effect on my health. At the minute it isn't a major concern as I hope I could stop soon

 , Obviously it isn't healthy, but is one every 2 days really that bad ?
#3
...urrr...yes of course it's still bad for you. The tar, the chemicals, all the reasons that it's bad for you smoking everyday are still there when you smoke every other day no matter how many.
#4
Keep smoking never done me any harm....10 a day and can ran a 1 minute mile in 3 hours....
#5
Also, if you had a willing girlfriend there are other ways to ease stresses in the evenings (and mornings) when you are home which can be very good for your health.

OP absolutely ridiculous question

Plus chewing tobacco is amazing, give it a go
#9
silly question

actually if you want to lessen the effects from cigarettes smoke ones with no added chemicals like american spirit, but no matter how rarely you smoke it still has an effect

Probably won't do you that much harm but what's the point?.

When I smoked the only pleasure I got from a cigarette was a relief from my nicotine craving.

Besides foiling a bank robbery in rochdale quitting smoking is the best thing I've ever done.

I'm not smoking because I have a craving, I smoke because I enjoy it.

You can smoke other things that don't do as much harm as cigarettes :w00t:

My brother says that, I don't get it myself, why not do something which isn't bad for your health and won't make you stink? There must be other things you get stress relief and enjoyment from?! There has to be some type of craving/chemical reaction if it is de-stressing you and you look forward to it.

Well done winning a very hard battle.

Nicotine though is not a significant carcinogen. It is dangerous substance which has the potential to cause very serous health effects, but it is the myriad of nasty substances that come along with it in use of tobacco products that significantly increase the risk of cancer.

It's best not to use nicotine but if you find you need to it is better not to smoke or chew tobacco.

I don't understand this ideology. If you enjoy a night out or going to a game of football and look forward to it, it doesn't mean your addicted to it does it ? I don't have cravings or look forward to it as such, I just enjoy the relief it offers and at 10pm there i'm not going to go out and do something I enjoy. The only other things that offer similar stress relief that are healthier are probably weed, which is harder to come by and alcohol. I'm guessing you've never smoked ?

It may sound a stupid statement but it wasn't necessarily caused by cigarretes. This is what people and statistics miss. Every time anyone who smokes gets cancer, it is always assumed cigarettes is the cause.

Congratulations on your recovery though, wish you luck in the future

The relief it offers is from the withdrawal of nicotine! That combined with taking the time out from whatever is stressing you to have the cigarette. The cigarette is not relieving anything, it is in fact decreasing oxygen to the brain and making your heart pump faster....not exactly calming really is it?

Then why does a first cigarette give the same effect ? Nicotine is a stimulant (like caffeine) and releases dopamine, the body's natural pleasure drug, into the brain. That's why it is calming for me, not because it releases any cravings (that I don't have).

You didn't answer my initial question although the answer is obvious. Have you ever smoked ? You can't really comment if you've never experienced it yourself.
#31
Yes its absolutely fine, no harm at all to you as long as you dont smoke every day.

Also incase you didnt know there are NO calories in any cakes or biscuits that are given to you only in the ones you buy.
#32
speaking as an addict, don't do it. The risk of becoming an addict is too high. I started off on one cig a week. Apart from the nicotine addiction, I'm addicted to 10 minutes alone in the garden away from it all, "treating myself" "it's my one vice".
Ten minutes tai chi, chocolate, a beer, or all 3 would be a better idea.

By exactly the same way! :? You are putting nicotine back into the body! A stimulant is not relaxing is it? Its a stimulant!

Yes, smoked for 10 years, then stopped for 2 years, then smoked again for 5 years, then stopped again, now smoke occassionally on the weekends....because its a drug and its addictive! Yes, probably hypocritical but i think your idea that it isn't is rather naive and you are only fooling yourself thinking otherwise.

It releases a relaxant into your brain, so yes it is relaxing for the hundredth time  Caffeine is a stimulant but a cup of tea can be relaxing after a hard day. I am not addicted to the nicotine so it doesn't give any relief from a craving. I'm not naive to the fact it can become addicting but this isn't the only reason people smoke.
