Looking to upgrade in the next few weeks and ive got ym heart set on a 42inch plasma
I was thinking of going lcd but at the moment ive got sd tv setup and lcd dont handle them great.

Now this tv does look nice
Its £699 from john lewis with 5 years warranty which is worth it but
http://www.johnlewis.com/Technology/Televisions/Televisions/Plasma+TV/1377/230420498/Product.aspx

Its also £640 on amazon
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000O12ECW/30000323-21/?m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

So do they still price match also whats the cheapest price around for this and are there any codes for johnlewis as im lost on this new site

Has good reviews on the net
http://www.trustedreviews.com/tvs/review/2007/06/12/Samsung-PS42Q97HDX-42in-plasma-TV/p1

Just unsure if i should spend extra and get 1080p with 100hz

'Which' rate this TV as a bit above average. It is stylish and has good HD picture quality but standard picture and sound quality is not so good and apparently it is very power hungry using 330 watts.
I haven't seen one myself so can't comment but hope the info is useful.

Hmmm might have to find something a little less energy hungry

Hi Daniel,

You may want to look at the Panasonic range of plasma TVs. They feature heavily in Which's Best Buys.

https://www.which.co.uk/reports_and_campaigns/audio_visual/reports/television/watching/lcd_and_plasma_tvs/lcd_plasma_tvs_essential_guide_574_103930.jsp

You can register for a months free trial for Which online for £1 while you investigate. Money well spent when you consider the cost of your TV!

John Lewis do price match but only bricks and mortar stores not online ones. It's worth considering the possibility of spending a few extra pounds with them as all TVs are delivered free, have a 5yr guarantee and their service is truly excellent. Think how much an extra 4 yrs warranty would cost with other retailers and it makes sense!

Hope this helps.

This can actually had for £630 fro JL. The set seems pretty good, especially like the 15000:1 contrast ratio and the gaming mode. Only thing is it seems a bit too plasticy to me. In the end i ended up going for a px70, but this is still a great tv. Phillips have a plasma that uses the same panel as the samsung, so you could get that if you want to save a couple of quid.

No matter which one you end up going for just make sure you buy some good quality cables.

I can't recommend the Panasonic 42PX70 though, I am over the moon with mine.

All plasma tvs of this size will consume around this wattage. My 50" uses 450W.

you'll have to go for LCD for less power consumption but then you lose picture quality IMHO.

Do you have a code for this?
#9
i have one of these and can say that it is fabulous!!!!!! best thing we ever bought! sound is fab through the htx30r (or it may be hxt30), samsung cinema surround set, great piece of kit!

Its not a code. Its 700 at JL so what you do is buy £700 of JL vouchers through mbna site. you get 10% off, so 700-10%=630. This is exactly what i did when i bought my px70, i got them to price match richer sounds, then walked in and paid with vouchers. I got the ped version, then bought a book shelf from ikea, turned is sideways and put some metal legs on it. It looks much better then the cabinet they provide.

Dunno if its worth it though --- and the money is loads to me -- if i could get it like sub £600 it be a bargain

It look uber cool in my room and with 5 years warranty ive got no worries even if its a plasma

I got mine a few months ago so not sure it has been stopped, but i told some body else about the vouchers and they used it a few weeks ago.

havent got any pics of it at all have you ??

So this tv is good for the price then - the contrast ratio looks great

Dont really care about bad speakers as i use ym headphones at the moment and in the process of getting new surround sound

For the price is not bad at all, but also consider the philips one i was telling you about as they both have the same panel. Also or either qed, ixos, or thor cables. Will get photos posted in the morning.
