I had a plot of land which i sold lasy year for a tidy profit. If you do your research and go through the right sources using a solicitor there won't be a problem.

My brother and some mates bought some land 10 years back as a longterm investment without planning permission.......it's on it's way to being granted and the land has increased in value to 7 figures.......lucky guys :x as they've laready got building developers asking for a piece of the plot

Morris v. The Crown
They invoked Articles 8 and 19 of the European Convention on Human Rights, which guarantee the right to a private life and protection from discrimination.
Thus was lowered from 18 to 16.
