Is there a problem with my Xbox 360??

I continually play the new Pes and every so often a message comes up on screen stating "Unable to read disk". I often hear scratching sounds like the disk is being damaged and as a result the disk itself has become scratched by the console. Is there anything anyone can suggest?? Will I have to send it away to be repaired?

Another issue is that the Xbox ring at the front of the console only partly lights up (See pic). Does anyone know why this is??

Thanks in advance
David

each of the 4 quarters of the circle represent a controller, so on your console you have one controller connected, if you had two then two lights would be lit and so on.

just so long as they're not all red, you're fine ;)

not sure on the scratching issue, might be worth trying a CD head cleaner in the console?

edited to add: when you turn the console on, do the lights on the ring all light up in turn then settle on the one thats lit in your photo?

Ye they all light up and then move to the position as in the photo. Is this a good sign??

Put your console horizontal, Microsoft have a disc replacement program in place if your disc gets scratched just look on www.xbox.com After watching/listening to someone's disc drive on YouTube your case is quite common as long as it's not scratching the discs it's okay, but you'll get less noise if you put it horizontal. Don't worry about the light, it's only cosmetic they won't replace it.

http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/support/discreplacement/discreplacement-program.htm

just noticed they only replace the Microsoft titles, guess you'll have to take them to court to replace non Microsoft branded discs

I think their was a certain DVD drive in xbox 360's that often left ring marks on the disc or scratched them, I think Microsoft offer a free disc replacement scheme providing you send them the disc?

That's what I've just done. PES 2008 seems to be working fine though, maybe its just a faulty disk of 2009??

Yeah, apparently even tho they were built to stand up on there side they dont really like it according to gamestation.

My xbox was standing on its side and grinded my hubbys copy of GTA(when it was just out).

We now have ours sitting horizontally too.

Just had a look and it's just for Microsoft games I think, I just remember I'd seen free disc replacement somewhere on Xbox 360 website http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/support/discreplacement/

Your best bet is to probably take it back to the store of purchase and claim it was scratched, They should offer you a replacement or refund. I'd consider the refund and get Fifa 09, A much better game imo.

"No replacement will be made if less than 90% of the damaged disc is enclosed. " hahahah

Sorry I didn't read all of your reply. Looks like I'll just have to buy another copy of 2009.

Thanks all the same guys

Don't just roll over you pussy! You didn't mention in your OP that the disc was scratched, if the Xbox scratched your disc then by all means get Microsoft to come and repair it, when you apply for repair make sure you mention it scratched your brand new £40 game

click this link https://service.xbox.com/servicehome.aspx?mkt=en-gb&scrx=1

register your xbox then request a new repair

I had a one month old XBOX 360 Arcade that was doing the same thing. first it will complain about certain games, but when it could not read my brand new copy of FABLE 2 I just took it back to the shop and got a new XBOX.
These are signs that your DVD drive is not working properly. If you still have a warranty I would take it to the shop and just take the game with you and they will see the problem and give you a new one.

My new disc got sratches from the XBOX, when I ask them to replace my XBOX they replace the game as well.
