Plz explain, sure it's not as large as the iPhones (yet) and that games aren't up to par with the iPhones (yet), but is in no way DREADFUL.

Cool, shame they don't seem to have the equivalent of the app store.

I hate it when people like you say it's gonna catch up and stuff, well that's what your trying to say by saying "(yet)"...YET it's been around since october 2008 you'd of thought they'd have some quality apps on there by now?!

It will never "catch up" to the appstore...EVER.

The Apple App store has 225,000 apps in its list, which is highly impressive, but Android has 65,000 (estimations for Android only because Google don't care for bragging about it's total market amount, during the Google IO conference Eric Schmidt said that there was about 65,000 and I believe this is the only time he has stated a number of apps to journalists). To say that, in October 2008 to April/May 2009 there was only 1 phone with Android, that is VERY impressive.

Figures seem to suggest that the speed of apps being developed by the Android Market is growing exponentially:

In terms of quality apps it goes with the growth of the OS - Android is still classed as just a toddler at the moment, with the SDK still at infant stages, needless to say that in 2.2 Froyo and 2.3 Gingerbread the SDK will grow and grow, making the platform a plethora of high quality and very well implemented apps.

In 2.2 Froyo Android has got MUCH faster, not only in the browser but the core running of the OS. This gives apps more freedom to use the rest of the memory not used up by the OS for Apps.

Theres probably A LOT I have missed off but, needless to say the Android Market is getting stronger, and it will be the only Application Store I will be using for the foreseeable future.

EDIT: in fact Androlib actually reckon there is roughly 80,000 apps currently in the Market:

The android market can have as many apps as they want but they'll never match the quality of the ones on the appstore, nuff said.

Quality? I have an iPod Touch and 99% of the apps are completely pointless for iPhone and iPod! A few are quite good but there is sooooo much drivel on there.
