Is there any point to the SPL?

I mean, unless you are a Glaswegian you should maybe follow a different sport? What a joke. I think that all football teams should have to exclusively use players who were born in the town, always have thought that and always will. Otherwise, the richest team always wins.
Tell me i'm wrong lol

The quality of my Sunday morning football beats the SPL every week.

It was only good when Gretna were in - more or less guarenteed the result on your coupon !

And it probs only equivalent to bottom half of the championship !

Most English 2nd division clubs would come high in the SPL. Its a mickey mouse league.
#4
thats like say lower leagues should pack in..............get a grip yep there leagues are not as good as ours.but like goes on and when you look at the lower league team playing in the fa cup.ever1 wants to win the best so you try harder.............
#5
you clearly know nothing about football, rangers and celtic might have been forces in the past but its slowly becoming a more open league where anyone can beat anyone, Maybe if you watched and didnt just go by what others said then it would be ok,

and atleast we actually have players in scotland that WANT to play for their teams and dont just go to the team for the money! We might not have the best teams in the world, but atleast we play for the chance to win and we dont just show up for the money,

Great idea, then the biggest towns would win - there must be more potential footbal players living in Manchester than say Carlisle. And what if you are born in Sidebottom Wallop but you are like Roy of the Rovers but only you're not allowed to play for anybody other than SW?

This story is going to run and run

That's true enough, so you could then say within xxx miles of birthplace. Then a player might have a choice of 5 or 6 teams to choose from. ATM, you have bloody Japanese players playing for Celtic and Korean for ManU. What affiliation they have to their teams, apart from their massive transfer fee, is beyond me.
It's also true that you try harder if you play for a small team, and that may take you thru a couple of rounds in the FA Cup. It certainly isn't going to work over the course of a whole season though. The minnows will always be minnows and the money clubs will always fight it out at the top.

you do know those rules are already in place for kids signing yts forms? Its a very well know fact that had david beckham, ryan gigs, paul scholes and nicky butt all grew up now and went on to become the players they are they would never have come through the ranks of man utd cos they all stayed to far away,

for kids it works great, but its flawed for old players, what should be put in place is salary caps, like in the nfl and nba and mlb, that way the leagues would be more open and ppl wouldnt be able to offer X amount of wages to the best players!

scottish league is rubbish yes but rangers and celtic would cope in the premier league...just but a few teams would be ok in the championship but the rest is woeful....

Standard isnt that great compared to the PL but so what? They are still entitled to their own league! If you dont like it, dont watch it!

' mean, unless you are a Glaswegian you should maybe follow a different sport?' - what happened to supporting your team through thick and thin? Not just because they are good or not.

I am an AFC Wimbledon supporter, terrible standard, but I support them all the same.

nearly did a couple of seasons ago....the EPL is just as bad, nobody outside the big 4 will ever win the league.

at least it has a big 4, rather than a " big " 2

I agree the SPL is a waste of space and if celtic and gers were in the premiership they would finish bottom half every year

So, you reckon that Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal etc don't always finish in the top 4 of the EPL?:whistling:

Rangers and celtic do better in europe than any team outside the big four. Granted this year has been a disaster but look at last year, celtic in last 16 and rangers uefa cup finalists.

With the support the two teams have if they had half the income EPL teams get from the league they'd be up there with the big 4.

Although saying that the quality of the lower half of SPL is mince

rangers uefa cup finalists.

And weren't their supporters the finest ambassadors of sport, sportingly destroying someone else's city?

no they would not as they would have a higher financial backing, sponsorship,tv money would be greater than what they are getting now and attract better players and apart from top 4 what other team has a 60000+seater stadium and 50000+

English fans haven't got the best of reps either but we are talking football here not fans. And I am a Celtic fan who have won awards for being the best fans in the world on a number of times.

Aye Right. Maybe compared to the 'Gers but they're not angelic. Have you seen your avatar?

I hope so
I'd lurve to see a more competitive SPL. I agree that the EPL is usually a four horse race in reality (Liv, Che, Asnl, ManU), but the points diff between those 4 and 'the rest' is rarely a distance. A couple of good results can get the likes of Everton and Hull (even the pompey and the hammers) right in there with a shout of a place in Europe.
I'm not comparing the EPL to the SPL, just making an observation on the gaping 11pt diff between 2nd and 3rd places.
