Is there anyway of finding out someone from there Sort Code and Account Number?

Hi there,

Bought something of ebay. User had rating of 200. Seemed pretty decent.

Paid via bank transfer £350 cause my paypal was out of action.

The sellers ebay account has closed down and the seller is ignoring my calls and emails it seems.

I have his Sort Code, Account No and Phone number.

Anyway of finding out his address, want to pay him a little visit!

Report them to the police.

the police wont be interested. Seller could just say it was a personal debt. One word against another.

Should I kiss the money goodbye then you reckon?

you say you have his phone number, if you have his name look it up in the phone directory.
If not Google his phone number, you might be lucky!

First of all report them to your local police or find out if there is a local police station from around the area where the scammer lives , that way the police will go round to theirs a lot quicker.
Secondly get down to your bank and do a chargeback for that amount immediently!!

Op I still have the police officers details in london that dealt with mine.

I don't mind contacting him to see if he will assist you.

Report them to the police.

Do the above, you have evidence of an ebay sale and confirmation of payment which is enough for them to start enquires.

Chargeback through the bank, been throught this myself a few years ago, but not for an amount this large! Takes a few months to sort out though, but worth it when you have your money back. Also, you need to report to the police for a crime reference number. You can also ring ebay as well, though they wont be able to help you as private money transfer is like completing a sale outside of the site. Should never pay for items on ebay by private bank transfer, it's like kissing your hard earned cash goodbye. Hope you get your cash back x

you have to file a fraudulent claim via your bank, and mention you have his sort code and account no, i think you need to report it to the police to or maybe the bank will take care of that. I would suggest you to get in contact with your bank first and with his sort code and account number it would be really easy to pin point his location. hope this helps

Is it any wonder there are so many scammers about when people are going to be so stupid?

I haven't used ebay for ages but when you purchase something of someone, don't you get their name and address in the winning email sent to you.

He worked for the met when I last dealt with him.

OP I have been advised by the met that you need to report it to your local police station 1st and they will forward it to the relevant department/area.

Good luck!

Report for trolling.

Get a life

I would've but the "I've been advised by the met" nonsense is too funny to report. hopefully the mods will allow it to stay just for the lulz.

what about if you wanted to send a cheque

what about if you wanted to send a cheque

not sure about that tbh , i'd imagine that would be something you would just request off seller personally via email,....i think

you paid for an item you purchased via ebay so you can still put in an item not received, you can pull their details via ebay but not sure if they close their account if you can still do this, have you checked?

ebay has been suspended. Did try that but says item does not exist.

Thank you.

Good idea I might try contacting some of them.

What did you expect the bank to do? You willingly transferred it so nothing they can do. Thats a bit like paying cash for something, getting ripped off and going to the bank of england to get it back.

Maybe one of the posters who have suggested doing a chargeback could tell you how to do it though?
#38
Ive just spoken to my bank, they said speak to my police station. Will pay them a visit after work today. Need to collate the details first ready for them then will report it.

Just emailed some sellers, hopefully a few will respond.
