ok to cut a long story short, hubby was driving home from work yesterday stopped at the roundabout behind 2 other cars and a ash cart and a women drove into the back of him, cant see any damage to our car on the backend but cant see underneath it. phoned my insurance company to tell them , gave them her details then today someone calls asking do we want to claim off our insurance? they spoke to my hubby so he didnt think anything of it just said no we want to claim off hers if there is any damage to the car.
I gets home he tells me and alarm bells are ringing! phoned my insurance company and they say i need to ring in the morning to speak to the 2nd claims department?
so is there anyway to check if this woman was insured or not?

Because your insurance company will pay for your damage, then go after the other company for the money, you will also have to pay any excess first.

In my opinion, if you have little or no damage to your car, I would not bother claiming or letting them know because it will still have an affect on your next year's premiums.

see thats what i asked them yesterday they said if she was insured we wouldn't have to pay a penny toward the excess or lose any no claims bonus . our car is a volvo so its built like a tank but its creaking at the back now so im not sure if theres damage or not unless its up on ramps , the only day i can get it check is friday so might have to wait

I had something similar last year, a small bump and i told our insurance company just to be careful, anyway they then called me several times asking if i wanted to make a claim, they said that they would deal with it and claim the excess back from the other company, i pointed out it was not a big bump and said no, and the other party were paying in full, They still persisted to get me to make a claim for about three days, i was eventually told its there way of generally making some money out of the situation. Its just another insurance money making/policy claim bump tactic i think

Some companies are different, so it is always good to double check. If the other party does admit liability, you will not have to pay the excess, but your insurance company may ask you for it first, then claim it off the other insurance company when the claim is closed (which could take weeks/months)

aircanman thanks for that bit of info i had no idea, glad my excess is only £100 now. well that site that boydent999 gave me says she was insured but hadnt told insurance about the bump yesterday so just going to have to wait until the morning to confirm.
thanks again guys you are stars , boydent999 is the best lol

quick update. spoke to the insurance company today, IVE got to take my car in to their nominated garage next Wednesday ( only day they can fit us in) they will look at the car and tell me there and then if it needs repairs. hopefully they will have the courtesy car there for me!
We've got to pay the excess which is now £250.00 not impressed at all by that, it says £100 on my inhand policy but they say its a typo! hmmm,
then claim it back of the other driver, she is insured, she hadnt told her insurance about the bump, they found out when my insurance made the claim. So just need to wait now.
thanks again guys for all the help .x

your premium will probably go up a bit more than usual next year as you have been involved in a claim (regardless of fault).
#34
oh i hope not since we moved our insurance has gone up by £200 already even though the car is garaged every night.
gemmyw thats what im worried about just because we cant see anything doesnt me some things not broken, just want to be safe.
Dog cop thanks for the advice ive already emailed them my policy and the cover note they sent our, and ive found the email conformation all stating £100 so fingers crossed thats enough proof.
thanks again guys will update when we know if the car is ok.
