Is there something in the water in Beijing?

Why are all the swimming records being broken in the pool? Is the water laced with something? Or maybe the pool is 1m short of standard?
Off topic, wtf is there so many swimming events? How many different ways need there be to prove who the best is???

LOL. I was actually just thinking that the pool might be 1 metre short.

It's something do do with the pool being deeper than a normal tourny pool, the partitioning floats or whatever they're called causing less turbulence, them new fangled space suits they're all wearing and the poo that's at the bottom of the pool.

Apparently theres been amazing leaps in the technology used for training and conditioning in recent years, also the pool is wide and deep meaning it's a 'fast' pool.

It does all make it look silly, what with records falling literally more often than not.

On the subject of the number of different race events - I thought it had been scaled down as theres a few events that have been removed even!

Evolution, higher, faster, stronger.
Don't be surprised to see the Men's 100m sprint smashed today.

Apparently it's a lot to do with the full length suits, partially designed by NASA so my husband informs me, that gives them a 5% improvement or something. Sounds far too technical for me but they do seem to be working.

or the small outboad motor that Micheal Phelps has strapped to his stomach

Exactly this - nothing to do with human evolution, communist revolution, or the athlete's constitution.

I read something a while ago where a lot of countries were moaning because they couldn't afford the new swim suits that the Americans use, and thought they were at an unfair disadvantage. Moan moan moan...... :)

Going back to the drugs comment, remember when Ian Thorpe won loads of medals at the olympics and he won a race by a few seconds and it turns out that the second place guy was taking drugs, how annoying would that be, you cheat and still lose!!!
#15
yeah I heard the pool was deeper too & this was causing it - stupid really, it's hardly fair on the people who set previous records is it!

I've lost all interest inthe olympics as I've grown up to be honest, I still quite like the winter olympics though.

worto.

Didn't work for the female gymnast who's been caught taking drugs, she came last!! She needs to change her tablets!!

The Chinese woman who won the backstroke was wearing a normal Speedo swimsuit like you or I could pick up in our local sports shop - must have annoyed the rest of the field who were all wearing the snazzy NASA suits!

I just think there are far too many events. Where is Usain Bolt's opportunity to win 8 golds, and does that make Phelps better than Bolt? Unless of course he wants to compete in the 10,000 and the steeplechase

I heard Phelps is weeing in the pool to enhance his thrust through the water.
