Thinking of buying this from Tesco using the double reward vouchers, so in effect would be paying £300 instead of £600. Would like any good/bad feedback before taking the plunge pls :)

If it were made by anyone but Dell yes. Good enough spec, sadly Dell fill computers with so much crap, and they tend to grind to a halt after 2 years.

decent compared to what:
CAD Rendering,
Facebook
Email and writing
or
High quality frequent gaming
?

Yes it is a good buy but as it is a Dell you will need to create your own recovery/repair disc. By the way if you have £300 worth of vouchers then you are getting it for free! :)

Put it this way, on my current 4yr old Toshiba Equium T2050 @160GHz cpu runs 80-100% and it's not used for gaming but is for streaming news and charts.

I guess my question is - IF I had to pay the full £600 would it be a good spec for that price?

I very much doubt it but as it doesn't list the GPU it's hard to be definitive.
Overall though I don't think it's a premium Dell laptop so £600 is a lot even for an i5.
