im looking for a laptop for my son for christmas and i went into my local second hand shop where they offered me a acer 5051 for £190 with 6 months warranty is this a good buy or can some one suggest somthing else at a good price.
it looked in new condition with no scratches and even turned it on and looked to be working fine, i myself have acer aspire 5315 that seems to do all the things i need to do.

really depends on the spec

Difficult to know if the Acer 5051 is worth the money because we dont know the specs.

Companies often use the same number (like 5051) for a period of time so the details of whats inside may be very different depending if it was at the start of the life of that model, or at the end.

See if you can find the specs of the laptop and get back to us. We need CPU model and type, amount of RAM memory, size of hard disk, size of screen, version of Windows, CD or DVD writer, also does it come with a restore CD so you can reinstall Windows if need be.

To be honest though it is hard to justify paying £190 for a second hand laptop when you can get a new one for around £250 if you look around.

Here is a Dell laptop on this site at £251 for example

Acer Aspire 5051 ANWXMi Laptop is powered by 2.0 GHz AMD Turion 64 Processor MK36 with 256 KB L2 cache, 1200 MHz FSB, supporting AMD PowerNow technology and AMD HyperTransport technology, and it features 512-MB of DDR2 667 MHz SDRAM (Max 4 GB), a 60-GB SATA 5400 rpm hard disk drive and 8X DVD-Super Multi double-layer (8.5 GB) DVD Writer.
they were selling it for £215 which i thought was too much so they knocked it down to £190
its still quite expensive for second hand but might be able to haggle abit more just wondering if this is worth the money or if someone knows what would be a better one to go with.
my son is only 9 and likes to go online to play cartoon network games and stuff but want it also
for abit of homework and stuff.
