Wanting to get an slr camera and have done abit of research and have come up with the Nikon D3000 - would also lke to get an xtra lens - so if anyone has any opinions or advice it would be greatly apprecited - would love to hear if anyone knows any good deals also

It's a pretty solid little camera, one of the main issues with it is the lack of an autofocus motor which means you're limited to newer lenses if you want autofocus. For example, the 50mm F1.4D (standard prime) is around 160 pounds but will only focus with bodies that have an AF motor built in, the D40, D40X, D60, D3000 and D5000 all lack this motor - to get a 50mm with AF you need the more expensive 50mm F1.4G.

There is still a good range of lenses though, you've not mentioned what type you want the extra lens to be so I don't know if that's going to limit you or not.
