Looking to buy a new bike, what do you think of the spec for the price tag?

Looks decent enough. I recently bought a bike from Evans and can thoroughly recommend them, Fantastic service and the bike was more or less fully built, only had to straighten the bars and fit the pedals. Came with a free decent toolkit as well.

I think for that sort of money you should at least get hydraulic discs brakes thrown in but appears to be no such thing on this bike .

some of the halfords carrera range vengeance ltd or vulcan can be had for less with hydradiscs and better or equal componentry for as low as £329 . don't buy just yet wait till after xmas
my 2 cents

Never buy this year model of bike, you'll always get stung. Go for this years bike as they really cut the price and you'll be able to haggle more.

For some reason this years version of the bike has mechanical rather than hydraulic brakes. Ive been keeping an eye on this price for a few weeks now, the price has dropped from £450 to £404, do you think it will drop further after xmas?

They have also down graded the forks on the 2011 medel from XCR to XCM which are worth about £50 Compare that to the excellent Tora TK on the Vengeance which are worth a minimum of £150

I think all Scott prices are imported from the US, hence when being sold in rip off UK you get less for your money. The Scott frames are top notch though.

The paint chips really easily on Scott frames....so if you do go for that lovely looking green one then invest in some helicopter tape to protect it.

or buy a 2nd hand bike for dirt cheap and just rag it down the mountains not caring about the paint work or your bones for that matter :p

defo drop in price plus if you reserve on line you usually get 10 % off
..I'd say wait till after xmas , I'll keep an eye out anyway & give you the headsup if I learn anything .I'm quite familiar with my local halfords as i ride trials with some of their lads

Mine isn't a downhiller either, just got uprated front shocks and disc size.
