Sony Vaio E Series
i3-330M
15.5" screen
320gb Hard drive
3gb DDR3 RAM
Bluetooth
Intel HD graphics
1366x768 screem res
and all the other normal things for £479 (The laptop is new)

I could upgrade the i3-330m to a i5-430 for a extra £50 but im not sure if I need to.

I can also add a 512mb graphics card and make the screen 1900x1080 for a extra £90.

Thanks for your time.

P.S Does anyone know if I can ring Sony and get a discount ??? lol

The cheapest ive seen this in shops is £529 at Sony Centre. Then £549 at Currys and PcWorld.

Is there a major different between the following res on a 15.5" screen : 1366x720 and 1900x1080 ?

the larger number means you can fit alot more desktop into the 15.5" screen. but what that also means is the text goes really really small.

on my 15.5" laptop i have 1366x768 and it is fine!

I dont really want to spend more than £550. I just got a full refund on my 11 month old laptop, Argos sent it for repair and it came back damaged so they had no other option. Lucky me :)

What would you choose :

£479 with i3-330m and Intel HD graphics and 1366x768 res.

or

£529 including the i5-430m

or

£569 with the i3-330m but a 512mb ATI HD graphics card and the screen upgraded to 1920x1080 ?

Thanks again to all the people who have responded !

I'd fork out the extra for better processor, gfx and resolution (although the figures you're quoting don't look right, e.g. should the final res not be 1920x1080?)

Yea sorry I have just noticed about the res.

One thing I will recommend with ALL sony laptops is that you use a Windows disc and WIPE all the crap off there before using. The bloatware slows the machine down something rotten and you dont need any of it.

dude yes sony laptops are good.

is this laptop going to be your only machine? because if its not then i'd say have your money and stick with the i3 and 720p res

spending extra on things you probably wont use is dumb imo.

if you are going to edit on this machine the i3 will be more than adequate and if you are going to view the videos on another machine/tv then you dont need the 1080p screen especially only on a 15".

Well that depends doesnt it? - The product will have a perfectly legit license on that sticker on the bottom of the laptop . . . .

Just use an OEM disc, and PC shop will lend you one if you ask nicely.

On the other comment, Sony laptops are brilliant, very well made. I have the CW2 and its a superb machine. But the recovery partition etc needs to be taken off first, the software they put on these things is stupid.

the difference is HUGE but obviously only worth it if you need a hig res display, otherwise its just an extra expense and drain on system resources, but for me it would be a must. if you do much where you need to maximie screen real estate then this effectively gives you almost another half a display worth of content...

I have read this and I am surprised. mine is lovely and I am extremely picky when it comes to laptops. One thing I will say is the HDD's are Hitachi, I changed that immediately and its made a massive difference.
