Someone I know has said the following regarding the Wii with Twilight hack:

'Sorry I should have explained it more, I am not actually 'chipping' them but adding the homebrew channel and extra programs which means copied games (PAL or NTSC) can be played.'

Does anyone know if this is true and can be done? Any risks?

Make sure you use the correct WAD else you could end up in all sorts of trouble. Recoverable but more work than is necessary. If you head to aforementioned website there is a complete noob guide to softmodding.

My only request is don't just sign up to grab the files and sod off.

Bane Im sure I have responded to a couple of your threads in the past about this, the twlight hack allows one to have a Homebrew channel installed on the wii, from this you can install a back-up channel which will let you play back ups, you can install mplayer channel that lets you watch dvd's and you can install a classic console channel for all the classic games...theres a whole sticky on the forum I posted. My mate had his done, as he didnt want to chip his wii...very worth while he loves it

Yeah sorry bfjem I just never realised it played actual game backups and thought it was just the classic console games!!! The person I am speaking to is trying to charge £30.

Worth paying him to make sure it's done correctly rather than me mess it up?

If you get one of the guides online you can't really go wrong, there are only half a dozen steps, all of which are pretty straight forward and self explanatory

You will need an original copy of Zelda Princess Twilight and an SD card

You will probably find this quite useful

Make sure you check what version you have installed before you do it i.e. 3.2e, 3.3, 3.4

Sorry a nooby question. Do you store the backup of the games on the SD card or do you use write to another disc? I've got 2 children that seem to use the discs as frisbees and I'm already on my 3rd Mario Cart!

You burn the game ISOs on disc.

Don't them play it then, until they can show some respect.

Is it true you can do the hack with Super Smash Bros?

Do not pay someone £30! Don't even pay them £5, if you're spending money you're better getting a chip for around £15. Whuch is a much better solution anyway.

Getting a chip for "Around £15" and then opening up the Wii to install it is out of the question for lots of people.

If someone offered to do mine for £5 I would snap their hand off.

No. It's called the Twilight hack because you can ONLY use Zelda Princess Twilight, unless there has been a revelation in the last couple of days SSB or any other game will NOT work

dcx_badass
Fine maybe £5 or £10, but no way at £30! You have to remember new games need new updates, new updates mean your softmod is gone.

If you use the softmod just use Brickblocker or better still Wii Update Manager (WUM) on your ISO's and remove the update requirement. Game still runs perfectly, you don't need it to play it just Nintendo want you to have it.

You can also play NTSC games on a PAL console with the softmod, of if you;re worried there is software to convert NTSC ISOs to PAL

No, some games do require the update to run, alot don't, but some definately do/

The only game i know not to work with the softmod is James Bond Quantum of Solace. There is a website out there somewhere that lists the games known not to work but if you remove the update, as far as I'm aware, the game still runs as it simply doesn't know it needs the update.

first of all you must have an original copy of zelda twighlight princess. and this is not cheap. think the shops are on to whats going on . its the only game with a bug in it which enables you to softmod your wii. you need to establish your firmware ie 3.4. you have to downgrade this to 3.2. word of warning make sure you install starfall too as this will stop all updates and stop your wii from being bricked. you can obtain everything you need from digitalworldz.co.uk. but you must have at least 20 posts before you can download anything. or you can donate.well worth it. you wouldnt believe what you can do. hope this helps:roll:

Is the Wii picky about what discs it reads? I have some Verbatim 8x DVDRs at the moment and want to do this, will i need different/better discs?
#20
my m8s done it so yer its possible
#21
Yeah, had some cheap dvd-r discs and they work fine
#22
wow, this is all news to me - guess i'm off to do a bit of light reading & browsing
seems easy enough (famous last words) and I have Zelda T P game already.
#23
Might go to Blockbusters tomorrow and rent it, give it a go
#24
use Verbatim DVD-R's - I had TDKs' and some other brand as well no joy, Verbatum at 2x speed worked first time
#25
Do dvd +rs work also?

If not , why not?
