Is this worth it???....

Saw an ad on gumtree for this laptop:

HP Pavilion DM3-1112SA 13.3-inch Notebook (Windows 7 Home Premium, AMD Athlon Neo X2 L335 Processor, 2 GB RAM, 250 GB HDD, Bluetooth, 6 Cell Battery)

Link to amazon where it is selling for £400:

He says it is new (used once) and boxed and selling it for £280- IS IT WORTH IT???

Also, i have never bought a laptop from someone else before- is there a way to tell if it is stolen?

he says he got it as a gift, but it is fully boxed and new.

Have not spoken to the person yet, will call them tommorrow and query further- i'm a cautious person!

Wanted to ask if price is ok?

nicked
Don't even go anywhere near a HP Pavillion

I've bought one ages ago and the screen went, bought another one - screen went on that too!

HP Customer support is terrible and expensive.
I only buy off gum tree when its a product that isnt worth stealing.

Is it a scam???
No way to tell if its nicked and you can't be done for "handling" stolen goods if you don't know :P

Anyways it's not worth the money and as said above HP laptops are rubbish.

Other brands such as e-machines are also ones to steer clear of.

Based on reviews and feedback Dell and Samsung are the highest quality laptops around at the moment (although this could be debated)

If you want the best value for money go for a second hand laptop maybe 6 months old with the right specification would suit you fine.

For £200 I got my sister a Samsung r710 with a

Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 / 2 GHz Proccessor
Nvidia 9600m Graphics
Card Reader
Usual high quality samsung screen.

Which would perform much better than the one you posted.

You just need to find the right deal.

You just need to think, the actual price of laptops hasn't fallen at all for a long period of time so laptops that cost £400-500 new aren't really that great compared to ones 6months to a year and a half old.

Processor wise in simple terms steer away from any laptops with less than a 2 GHz processor clock speed.

What you also want to look out for is laptops with poor powerless GPU's (what puts the picture on the screen :) )

So for any that say Graphics: Intel [model number] you won't have very good performance graphics wise for playing games (if you do it, picture editing (if you do it) and all around use.

Nvidia and ATI are the best types of graphics adapter you will find and you should find (unless you play really intensive and demanding games) on any laptop with a ati or nvidia chip would suit your needs.

Hope this helps and makes sense! Let me know if you need help finding one!
I just offered him £300 and he accepted, bargain cheers for the heads up
