Interesting site I found a while ago I thought I would share on here. You can check official local authority hygiene ratings for food businesses in your area (as long as your council is participating):

It's confirmed some of my suspicions about dodgy chippies in my area!

I feel it only fair to let people know that some eating establishments out there will be perfectly clean but not filled in relevant paperwork regarding food safety, thus getting marked down, my father has run the same pub for 30 years and has never had any problems until this scheme came into operation, he is admittedly old fashioned and not a fan of form filling, which seems to blight our way of life in this day and age. He therefore received no stars, he sees it as a joke! and I for one can say that I have eaten there for all of my 30 years and have never been ill.
So don't read too much into it!

I disagree Morning.... The scheme is great because you can check out a business before you decide to eat there every council should be made to contribute to this scheme ....

If a business owner can't be bothered to keep records up to date what else can they "not be bothered to do"???

It's a perfect example of transparency whereby the customer can decide where to go and where not to go......

Fully agree. If an owner cannot even fill out forms, I certainly wouldn't want to be eating their food!

In all my years of travelling I can safely say that the dirtiest grubbiest restaurants with the chipped plates and bowls serve the tastiest food. And the cleanest restaurants are often the blandest places to eat.

Bump - still a very useful site.
