sounds like the RAM is not being recognised....

ahh right, i have just added some more ram to it, i put in 2 sticks of 1gb and 2gb ddr2

one of the sticks is either faulty, or not put in properly, or it's the wrong type of RAM

was there an led display with numeric characters counting backwards too?
if not id go with what they suggest

the beeping is just telling you there is something wrong with the ram - put it in properly and it will be fine - although if it is seated properly and still beeps, then your ram is faulty or the wrong type for the system...

i had this problem for about 4 months before my pc completely gave up on me :-(
glad i know what it is now though, thanks guys

ok reset ram, it has now stopped bleeping but wont go any further than the boot screen

is it possible that your mobo only recognises 1GB in each slot? what the make/model of the pc?

i think thats it, sorted now, i got 2gb instead of 4 but at least its working
