It's our eldest's 6th birthday in another week, and we're struggling for ideas of what to get him. We ask him and he doesn't even know what he wants himself

He had a PSP last year though, but ending up getting rid of it for a DS.

Where abouts are you based? A trip to Legoland and/or some Lego is usually popular at that age.

What sort of thing does he like doing? Is he an indoors or outdoors kid mist of the time?

I'm in Essex. Funny enough possibly going to Legoland in october but will be after his birthday:roll: He does have quite a bit of lego too.
He loves the DS then I dug out my playstaion 1  a few months back for him to try which he loved . Then bought a wii when we found a good deal. He loves outside too, bought him a trampoline for his 3rd birthday and a bike for his 4th which we can;t get him off!!

If you want a cheap laptop but not worried about brand new have a look at bigpockets.co.uk
They often have something which just needs a RAM upgrade to make it useable.

Also most boys like remote control stuff (us big boys too).

i have a 6 yr old i personally wouldnt bother with a psp if he has a ds - are you buying it just for the sake of it for something to buy?(i do that kind of thing) Games are alot better on the ds for kids - but alot better on the psp for the hardgamer.

Id say ds all the time for little kids.

lol... i have two boys whos birthdays are just before xmas so i will have one turning 4 and the other 7 so they get lots of things for birthdays and then xmas and then have nothing for the rest of the years. i usually give them a birthday party for their birthdays at a play area and just a small present then save the main things for xmas. (a wii last year for 6 yr old) maybe put some £ into a bank account for him put it into a card for him and let him see it, let him pay it in to his bank (if he has one, if not open one?) let him start saving both mine have had bank accounts from birth and my 6 year old was pleased to just hit a big milestone in his. i know its not as fun but he could save it up until he is older or if not even save it up untl there is something he really wants/ needs.
i have the same problem as you, december is sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo busy for us and then we have nothing to do..lol..

My 6 year old loves cars too - and I struggle with what to get him. He doesn't really want for much and occasionally wants a new toy through the year. Only this week he bought a toy with his birthday money - nearly 9 months after his birthday!

We are thinking of taking him GoKarting for his birthday this year. The one thing he really wants is a particular game for the Wii - he would be happy with only this! And he is already borrowing the same game from his cousin - lol.

I know my son would really like a cabin bed, so I am thinking of asking him if he would like us to get people to donate towards one of these - he's seen one he really likes and it's nearly £500! We could get the grand parents to chip in for his birthday and christmas and it could help pay towards this.

How about a special day out? Anything like Silverstone near enough to you?? Might find something a bit unique like a chance to sit in a race car or something? The sort of thing that's more than you would get on an ordinary visit.

If he doesn't really know what he wants then you could just get him a couple of small things to play with and do something like go-karting? When I was looking for me and OH to go the minimum age was 6 and there was one in Essex. :)

Or how about Diggerland in Kent, s'posed to be fab

I wouldn't get him a PSP if he already has a DS, it's not neccessary

cut out the garbage get him a real mans console 360/ps3 :-D
