It's too hot at work!

It was bad enough at work on Friday with the temp hitting 29 °, but in the office today we're tipping over the 30 ° mark. It's really quite unbearable and productivity has seriously dropped.

How are other people finding it at work and why on earth aren't there tougher legal guidelines? The World Health Organisation recommends a maximum of 24 °.

I shall sweat away at my desk in anticipation of your views :)

My office where I used to work hit 38 three years ago- I was pregnant at the time so I spoke to the HR dept and told them i couldn't work in there- They fitted me a new AC unit which kept the temp at a nice cool 21 :)
There should be stricter guidelines, it's not healthy to work in that heat

It's bad for the customers too though. We have a walk in office and they are baffled how we manage to work in these conditions. The whole thing is essentially a greenhouse as it's 90% glass.

30 degrees and above...

We have no air con. Oh joy.
#7
I thought it was now a law to have AC in offices but never mind! :giggle:
#8
We're struggling to get the landlord to cooperate with the installation of AC as the units above are student accomodation.
Wouldn't want to disturb those nice 'quiet' students during normal working hours now would we!
#9
jasonrat is right

if u think an office is hot try a kitchen that is in constant use

I feel quite lucky reading all these comments as I work with chocolate the company has to keep the place cool for obvious reasons.

Other branches of our store who don't sell chocolate don't have AC - so it's pretty clear the reason for our company installing it in our premises and it's not for our comfort! :whistling:

#18

Is it hot outside? I work in an I.T. department, so loads of airconditioning here:thumbsup:

Still, there is a downside - being an I.T. geek:giggle:

But at least you choose to work in those conditions when you get a job in a kitchen.
I hate a stuffy office...it sends me to sleep ;)

Agreed! If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen...

i think the only ones complaining here are the softies who work in an office
can't u open a window?
#25
Working in a train station in an retail outlet is no fun. We can't control the heat or fumes coming from all directions and the A/C unit pretty much is no use.
#26
Lovely hot day here again aswell!, Was cloudy this morning but soon brightened up!

We already have the door wide open, not that it does a great deal. It does however mean that every emergency vehicle that shoots past every 10 mins detonates our eardrums every 15mins (the police station is right next door and it's also the quickest route for the ambulances).

It's a tough life working from home in my shorts AND with a/c that my company paid for. :d

Too right! How selfish are you wanting to be all cool. :x These students have to sleep during day after a night on the lash. :w00t:
