Item from US getting returned

hitmanthitmant

I bought a Uke for my bro from the US, but he decided he didn't want it (It was a surprise so he couldn't really say no, but he did...)
So I asked the sender if I could send it back and he said he would happily take it back but asked me to check if he would be made to pay any fees for it.

So I called Parcelforce, the people with the parcel to check, I phoned up and they're literally the biggest **** idiots in the world!!
I gave them the Tracking reference and said I wanted to send it back but wanted to check if I the sender would pay any fees.
To that she replied
"I do not know what you are trying to say sir, all I know is if something comes into the European Union then then it will have tax'

Then I rephrased my question so it would be easier for the stupid **** to understand and her response:

" I do not understand what you are trying to say but I have just sent an email and your parcel will be sent back, Goodbye"

and then she **** hung up!!!!

Rant over.

but will the seller be made to pay any fees?

What anyone says on this forum is irrelevant.
Only the seller will know when he gets it what fees he has to pay.

If you didnt pay tax on way in to the UK im guessing it will be luck if seller has to pay fees or not for return.

I haven't actually picked it up though, it's still with Parcelforce I had to pay like £40 tax for it to be delivered to me, but I 'declined the shipment' so will the seller have to pay any of the tax that I was suppose to pay?

My wife's family in the States sent her some antique heirloom china as a surprise...the big surprise being that they sent it to the wrong address. When we finally found out we tracked it via a combination of Parcelforce's online tracking tool and some sleuthing around the neighbourhood and discovered there had been two attempted deliveries to someone's garden shed a few doors down, then the parcel had been returned to sender by Parcelforce. It was not seen or heard of again...

The seller will not have to pay tax on a returned item, that is if it ever gets to him.

He said it would have the same tracking on it as it had when it was coming to me

So the REAL reason you don't want it is cos its gonna cost more than you thought. Amirite?????? :p

7.7 If a Recipient refuses to pay any customs charges and duties (and any handling charges levied by Parcelforce Worldwide in respect thereof) due in respect of a Consignment and as a result, it or a part of it is not delivered, Parcelforce Worldwide shall not incur any liability and the Consignment (or relevant part) will only be returned to the Customer if those charges plus return carriage charges are paid by the Customer. Parcelforce Worldwide will attempt to contact the Customer to advise of the charges and to obtain agreement to pay. If such agreement is forthcoming, the Customer shall make payment at or to the local Parcelforce Worldwide depot, thereafter the Consignment (or relevant part) will be returned to the Customer.
7.8 Where the Customer refuses to pay the charges, referred to in 7.7 above, the Consignment (or relevant part) may be disposed of by Parcelforce Worldwide as it sees fit.

My guess is that the seller will only be liable to pay the returns postage, as the consignment never completed customs clearance.

It must have cleared customs else PF wouldn't be holding it. They effectively 'buy' the customs debt + add a handling charge on top. That's how i've always understood it to happen.
