Item not sent and no contact hukd

I bought something off hukd fs/ft section and didn't follow the fs/ft guidelines.

The only information I have for the seller is his full name, email address and username.

I have contacted the mods and he has been banned.

Its seems he uses the same email address for Ebay but it wont let me see his username as I'm not involved with an ebay transaction with him.

Am I right in thinking that there's no way of finding any more information about him and that I should just learn from the lesson.

Thanks Gav

Learn the lesson. By your own admission you have clearly not followed the FS/FT rules and guidelines, so I doubt many here will have much sympathy.

Put it down to experience, and get, and check, more details next time.

Can you remind me which thread please ?

Hi, yes I'm the first to admit I didn't follow the rules that are put in place to protect me.

Here is the link to the original fs/ft post.

why do people not follow the rules - what is so difficult about doing that? I bought a camcorder last night and after dealing via the thread, we then communicated by phone so I was happy with sellers details.

OP just learn from this and FOLLOW THE RULES next time

However the OP will be aware (if the name is genuine), that it's not a common name as such. Now I don't know his address as we don't store that info - but I've had a quick google and obtained a telephone number (mobile). It might be the same person and still live.

Really a case of you doing this research and as mentioned, please follow the fs/ft rules and trading advice at all times.

If you've got an email address, try searching for this person on facebook/myspace/bebo - chances are they'll have a profile on at least one social networking site. Even if their profile is private, you should be able to harrass them with PMs.

How did u pay?
If you paid via BT then you can search for the sort code into google and it will tell you were his registered location is, then you can maybe contact the bank etc...
#8
unfortunately this is what happens when rules are not followed and they are there for a reason, i think this will have to be put down to a very hard lesson learnt and op i am sorry this has happened to you as it is not nice for anyone to be conned and hopefully you may get some sort of result.

What exactly are the bank going to say, besides 'we can't discuss anyone's private information'???

I agree, but even if you did have the details that doesnt mean you can get any satisfaction. If someone is going to rip you off they will. Its all based on trust. I always suggest when buying and selling to post recorded delivery.

Threds like this keep popping up. Shame really as i think it may put people off trading on here!

The bank won't tell him a single thing.

How would recorded delivery have helped? :?

That is why I'd NEVER buy off here. What is the point?most of the stuff is cheaper on eBay (eg there was a phone on here last week 70 quid, when I looked on the bay, it was 20 cheaper AND you have eBay buyer protection)
some people set ridiculous prices on here (which is laughable considering the purpose of this website), when it's free to purchase on eBay and you are fully protected.
#14
to be fair following the rules wont guarantee a smooth transaction as they can easily provide a fake address. Best way is not to deal with people who have low feedback.
#15
The website should just stick to what it is - a forum where members can post good deals, and not be an eBay/gumtree/loot wannabe

And those people will likely not get a sale...

No, it's fine as it is. Ignore FS/FT if you don't like it, but there are plenty of competent, trustworthy buyers and sellers there. All it takes is a good read of the rules and a bit of common sense, and you'll be fine. I wont buy from someone with low feedback if they wont post first. I wont buy off someone who has more than one negative feedback. I refuse to sell without recorded delivery, even if it means I get less/no interest. Problems only occur when members fail to take a few simple steps to protect themselves.

well you can't base your argument on one thing, most items for sale here are cheaper than ebay. I bought a GTX 260 with 2gb corsair ram from here for £105. On ebay that would cost over £180

If you follow the FS/FT advice, the above would be realised prior to sending any item/payment.

See, if you've found his facebook profile then I'd probably copy and paste a message to a bunch of his friends saying that this guy ripped you off on a website (link to the sale thread and this one) and see if anyone will give you his number or address. A long shot, but if you want justice done then you may well find a friend on there who thinks this person deserves to be found!

If you restrict the results to "from the uk" on google.co.uk then you should see it right away. I can't help much further as this is only a guess and could be someone completely different. It was given as advice - you have as much info as we have.

Unfortunately even when you do follow the rules, you can still get ripped off, even by someone with good feedback, myself and other members on here got ripped off by a member with 90 positive feedback last Oct, despite contact via email, recorded letters and a mobile phone which was active at time of purchase, now switched off, we are still waiting for our items/ money back, am in the process of deciding whether to take it further, oh wants me too, principle etc etc:thumbsup:

*Update Just seen the previous post. Not good. However had we resurrected the 'Banned Traders' list, do you really think members will check this if they can't even follow the basic FS/FT Rules and Trading advice ?

Smarter scammers will work round the published info.

Consider reporting to paypal, although they will no doubt be less than interested if you've deemed to abuse the 'gift' facility to avoid fees.

You didn't follow the rules - get a landline contact as suggested and dial it, then verify.

It's actually No 1 in the trading advice.
1.

Landline telephone number Make a CALL to check out the area code and number are correct too!

So the only reason that you are getting ripped off is because you have chosen not to follow through with using the info you received.

What was the point in getting it?

Its not just the checking the list though - it would serve as a visible reminder than scammers do use the boards, and if it included a synopsis of what happened in each case, would also give people warning signs to watch out for...

I'm sure you are right that plenty of members will still be scammed, but even if it were to make 1 or 2 avoid a scam, or reveal a repeat-scammer before fraud is committed, surely that would be a good thing?

They didn't have a landline number, and had bought from them previously as had other people involved:thumbsup:

I have followed it up despite having given birth in Oct with complications, losing a close family member shortly after, having a severely disabled son, who needs 24 hr care, I have written 3 recorded delivery letters which were received, sent emails to the 2 known email addresses I had and sent a solicitors letter to te person, to which they had 28 days to reply, unfortunately that time will be up on Tues, so then I have to decide whether to keep pursuing them poss costing myself far more money than the original items were worth or reporting her to the police, myself and others have left her neg feedback and reported her to the mods so hopefully she will not be allowed to sell on here again, what else would you have done??

Cant see anyone on his profile.

I'm guessing its not going to be worth the time searching for this guy. he obviously knows what he's doing.

Lesson learnt and thanks everyone for your input.

Mod is it ok to share the info I have on here for other to see.

That sucks, they must have full privacy settings then. Still, check the other main social networking sites (twitter too, now that I think of it).

I couldn't care less about whether other people have dealt successfully or not. They won't refund me in the result of a non delivery.
I wouldn't send multiple recorded delivery letters, or visited a solicitor for a start.

I would send two letters asking for the goods or delivery within 10 working days, and then take them to court at a cost of about £30.

I was prob being too nice, but the person involved was a young mum with 2 young kids, thats why I went that route, even offering her the chance to pay me back at a £1 a week, guess I was a fool, but try to give people a few chances to do whats right, guess not everyone is honest lol

I always send recorded delivery as it provides additional cover and peace off mind. A buyer cant say they havnt recieved the goods and it protects the seller.

I see a lot off posts refering to the small claims court. Out off interest has anyone ever done this and recieved goods or money at the end off it. At a guess id say no. I hope someone can prove me wrong.

If no landline - I wouldn't deal, regardless of the volume of feedbacks. My personal choice and one I factor into the risk of trading.

Not everyone is honest, which is the whole reason for the rules and guidelines.
If you choose not to follow them, or not to use the information you got, then that's hardly the fault of anyone but yourself.

What additional cover, and how would it have helped the OP of this thread?
The items weren't sent, so I don't see how any theoretical postage method would have helped.

I would guess the percentage of people gaining satisfaction using the court system is higher than "I've been scammed" threads.

All that effort for the competition eh, all gone to waste. Unable to verify winners address/landline.

Never mind :-D
