ITouch - 8g or 16g? Help me decide please.

My son's 8th birthday coming up and I can't decide which size I should go for? He would like to have the music video's on the touch not just the songs and maybe a film or 2 for long journeys. I feel uncomfortable paying £200+ for a 16g iTouch but is it worth the extra in the long term?

I got an 8GB and it is quite adequate for me, I got it for Xmas and mine is filled already admittedly - but I see an iPod touch as very much a mini portable music collection - not portable music library.

He just has to keep his playlist uptodate, ie only putting on things he really wants on there, removing other stuff he finds he doesn't play.

Up to you at the end of the day.

I agree it's a bit excessive for an 8 year old hence the uncomfortable bit. I was going to get the standard ipod but a friend of mine had the touch and the display/viewing screen is so much bigger. I would'nt let him use the wifi for example so maybe the ipod is the way to go?

Maybe it is excessive - but what the hell if you got the dough.

Have you seen it running Google Earth or Google maps? it's fantastic.

I love using it as a web-browser aswell. Means I don't have to start up my desktop or Laptop PC if I just want to do something like check an email quickly or find address.

Oh yeah...it's also an MP3 player

I think for an eight year old you would be better with the archos 405 or 605 ,Putting movies and music on the ipod could be a bit tricky for an eight year old and my son has an archos 605 and it plays a lot more formats than the ipod and everything is just drag and drop .Also with the 605 you can download BBC Iplayer programmes onto it so no struggling looking for content just download a few episodes of his favourite programmes and take them with you,

Make sure you get a 1st gen. They aren't worth using unless you jailbreak it.
