It plays music. Pretty sure it's always done that. What exactly were you expecting it to do?

I find the interface full of faults, the Calendar synchronisation regular duplicates entries, the Contacts synchronisation the same (but not as often), connection to the iTunes client is hit’n'miss as I sometimes have to restart my Windows environment before the fact that there is a handset attached to the USB port can be determined, & occasionally the iTunes Client software informs me that “The computer is no longer authorised for applications that are installed on the iPhone…” or that my audio files can no longer be synchronised because they have been moved (& the files are removed from the handheld device). Neither of those cases is true.

I have many other issues with the software on the handset itself, too.

I've removed all the music I have on my iPhone 3GS now & will be seeking a new handset in a few months when my 18 month O2 contract expires as they whole experience has been very under-whelming.

Works Perfect for Mac, just saying Apple will always do this but don't get lower than Microsoft's software for Mac. Office is horrible and so is the messenger (MSN version 7 is the latest). Also it could your hardware for your PC etc.

Thing that annoyed me about Itunes was that storing my library on an external HDD caused endless problems. There is really no need for Itunes. It's completely unnessary.

Thanks for trying to help.

My kids own iPod Touch devices & sometimes the hardware refuses to be recognised in a Windows environment on their (different) laptops when connected by USB too.

My iPhone handset could be faulty I suppose.

To be fair to Apple, we exchange one of the iPod Touch models last month when it developed a hardware fault & they returned a new replacement (with the same free engraving that was on the original) in just over a week.

To the person moaning about storing on an external hard disk.. what was the problem?

I do this and have no problems at all? I also backup the itunes settings in both appdata and the music folder when I reformat.

All works ok?

For some reason when i opened up itunes without the hdd connected it would mark the songs with an axcalmation mark. Then when i ripped a cd to the computer and tried to get it on my ipod i ended up witj te one album on my ipod. Annoy since i left my hdd at work. Also when if i opened itunes before the hdd was connected then connected the hdd i would ened up with duplicate songs. Sorry i'm not explaining this well, but midway through i realeased i coudn't be bothered writing it.

I love itunes, been using it since version 4 and found it great, like I posted yesterday though, the new logo looks like it was made in a photoshop lesson at school.

Just change it then.

I don't like iTunes because it won't let me have any music. I want to PAY for it and everything. Pff.

I wouldn't use itunes if I didnt have an iphone.

Never finds the right cover and find it has less features than most of the competitors.

I'm confused.

What would you expect to happen in this case? Ideally I mean...

You really are stupid, obviously if you open iTunes without the external hard drive with all the music on, it;'s not going to work properly, and all the music goes on it, so if you rip a cd without it plugged in then it will mess things up. I literally am losing faith in humanity, my little cousins not even this stupid and they're 6.

So you have given up faith in humanity because my problem with itunes is that i have to have my external hdd drive attached to update my mp3 player, when other players such as creative, sony etc don't require such a pointless task. If i want to add a song i download at work and i don't have my hdd present i can't do it.

With my current Mp3 player if i don't have my hdd on me then i can attach the MP3 player to the computer and put on the song without problems. No actual software is necesary or no need to fiddle about renaming. If i want to use the software i can and not having the hdd attached doesn't affect it either. So ideally i would want it to only remove a song if i explicity ask it to.

Well no, but thats because iTunes is a media player and sync tool. Its not really the same thing. I mean I hate iTunes because its slow and hang-happy, but I do think you are a bit confused about what it is.....

No software will either play music, or copy music to a music player if the music is on an unattached external hard drive.

iTunes is just an interface. The files still need to be there to be able to play.

I'm not confused about what it is. But the only function that i required it for was putting music on my ipod. And i felt it was below par and caused mne problems because my music was on my hdd. It might be good as a media player, but i'm not questioning that.

I'm aware of this and have no problems with this. Have never tried to get music to play when it isn't there and probably never will.

Then its be thats confused - I don't understand what you are saying. Like I said - I don't like iTunes, but I don't get what your problem is. What I think you are describing, works fine on my system.

Don't want them to play. Want them to remain on my MP3 player when i add a new track. Unfortunatley unless i rename a file using the four letter format, i can't think of a way to get music on my ipod without itunes.
dcx_badass

You are seriously moaning because iTunes can't put music on off an external hard drive that isn't plugged in, you need a reality check.

I'm not moaning beacuse of that. However, you appear to be moaning about the fact you think i'm moaning about it.

dcx_badass

If you have a CD and I throw it out the window, would you expect your cd player to play it whilst the cd is outside in pieces?!?!?! WTF.

No i wouldn't, but i would expect to be able to play a new cd on my cd player even though my cd player can't see the other cds that were once played on it. Wouldn't you?

To be honest, it doesn't surprise me that Apple are making iTunes work better on a mac rather than the PC - One thing I will say as a Windows 7 user, they need to make the icon minimize and open on itself like ALL the other programs on a PC when the shortcuts are in the taskbar. But once again they haven't - Gutted.

its not Apple's fault for anything, its everyone else's fault, when it all bends towards Apple needs then it will be fixed.

I understand your plight. I use iTunes but have multiple sources, if one is not plugged in then it starts flagging and does not retrospectively correct the problem once the source becomes available again.

I find iTunes is superior on the Mac as you are able to move files around a drive without them being flagged. I find this easier as I like to specifically arrange my files for archiving once a month.
#29
I like it, runs faster and sound quality seems greatly improved. Will this be down to now being able to run 64 bit version or just a general update in the software?
That ping social network is a big steamy **** though, shame it could have been great if implemented well, eg work through facebook similar to foursquare or formspring.

I *think* doing an "Organise library" (without consolidation etc) will fix that in about 10 seconds. Dont kill me if it messes up.

Anyone else noticed the 64bit version still installs to C:\ Program Files (x86)\iTunes

I noticed this, but it's just the default location. You can decide to move it if you like although I don't think it makes a difference which location you go for.
edit, could be due to upgrading the 32bit version up to 64 so it keeps the same location?

It installs there because its a x86 app. Only the drivers are x64 (for cd burning mainly).

Works fine for me...no idea what all the moaning is about
