Oh all sooo stupid really! as long as the dog wasnt damaged surely its ok? its a brilliant ad!!

It's a great advert but there are too many idiots watching TV these days... Anyone remember the Xbox adverts where the baby is born and goes through life in about 15 seconds? or the one where people have a finger gun fight in a shopping centre? They were both banned and were good adverts :(

Volkswagen's controversial 'singing dog' commercial is being pulled from British TV screens today after hundreds of complaints from viewers suspecting animal abuse.

The 30-second advert features a Jack Russell sitting in the passenger seat of a VW Polo "singing" the Spencer Davis Group classic I'm A Man, but trembling and cowering when he's outside the car.

But The Mail on Sunday can reveal that although the dog at the centre of the storm, a six-year-old called Bear, is a natural shiverer, his "stunt double" Cody stood on a special motorised plate to make it look as if he was trembling.

The advert, which was filmed in California and first went out on British TV last month, has become one of VW's most popular commercials ever and is a huge success on the internet with more than 500,000 hits on YouTube.

How stupid are some people!! I can't believe anyone would think an animal was harmed in this commercial. Next you'll be telling me they actually believed it was singing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One of the best ads around at the mo.
#11
oh trust me, i know a few people who would have thought the dog was acctualy singing.
#13
the creatives : "let's see how do we show dogs that have a confidence problem? umm ... shiver shiver?" lol

so how do we achieve this: "eletronic moving plate!"

personally i didnt mind it but it was disturbing to see a dog shivering though ... OH says it has to prove beyond doubt that the animal was not abused in any way, ie vulnerable people or children (who might not understand the context) try to emulate it from the ad ... prevention is better than cure.
#14
What about the RSPCA adverts - are they going to ban them tooo!!! - and the RSPCC with abused children, its an ad for goodness sake, surely they cannot ban if they can prove no harm was done to animal
What I find disturbing is seeing a child hiding under a table!

Playstation one was one of the most original and impacting adverts I've seen.
I thought it was fantastic. The whole idea on how short life is, though it didn't really make me want to go out and buy a playstation, that would be wasting my life away now wouldn't it?!
Sorry I meant XBoX, not up on the games thing really!!!

Nah you'd still get all those thick hillbillies out there trying to re enact it with their mates souped up car. I remember when jackass came out and the squillions of home made videos of people trying to be like jackass. :x

Well next time they're on I think we best all contact the ASA:thumbsup:

As for this ad, it's one of the few I actually like. Better than the normal dross.

Call me cynical if you like but I can't help wondering if the people who complained were actually working for the advertising company. Ad gets pulled and what happens? It goes viral.....;-)
#21
that was a good advert! I didn't feel offended about anything, I knew that the dog was trained somehow, so it was defo not abuse. So what now, should they put it on a cartoon instead?
#22
I really like this advert thought it was well funny, saw the thread about it other day and I sent my friend the link to Youtube cos she not seen the ad on tv.
Yeh another ad I like at moment is for Krusha milkshake with the cats in the gym.

Seems all the great adverts end up getting banned - another one is the lynx chocolate man ad.....
Speaking of people thinking the dog could sing - My girlfriend's Gran watched it and asked after, ' How'd did they manage to teach the dog to sing so well?'
We tried not to laugh........and failed.
