People will just pick up the remote and watch BBC, Sky, Channel 4, etc. Sounds like a well-meant gesture but I really don't think it'll make much of an impact.

I would imagine that it will all depend on what local sports clubs and local authorities have planned and how it has been marketed, but as it is only 9 days away and I have heard nothing of it until seeing this thread I think that you might be right - for people living in my area at least.

People still watch TV?

It might help some get off the sofa for some exercise if the activities are free.

It'll just be like watching anything on BBC then because those channels only show tripe

I wonder how much they paid the person who thought up this bright idea?

Probably the same person who wrote and checked the article -

Coronation Street’s set will hose activities including badminton, table tennis and a climbing wall, while Emmerdale will hold a duathlon.

Very easy to be cynical about this, but it will give further attention to a good cause. Of course people can watch other channels or timeshift as they increasingly do, but if it encourages people to be a bit more active having seen the amazing achievements of our Olympians then that's a great thing.

like that Earth Hour thing it's a load of cobblers and will make no difference at all.

Ah yes, let's turn television off for an hour instead of educating all of the fatties killing the NHS about their horrendous understanding of energy in vs energy out...

Hahaha no fair point... I just get bitter. I weighed in at 17 stone back in January, decided enough was enough and sorted it out. Down to 12 stone now and toned up, feel a hell of a lot healthier in myself and now can't understand why more fatties don't want to do the same :( It fixed all of my aches, pains and breathing issues and 17st isn't even that big!

Sometimes all that people need is a push or a prompt to do something. Surely it is better that something is done to tackle the growing issue of obesity however insignificant it seems, than doing nothing at all.

If it encourages one person or one family to live a healthier life then is it not worth it?

And well done for losing the weight by the way. I'm glad you feel better for it :)

Yeah I agree, I just think it's a drop in the ocean in terms of the issue. More of a gesture than an actual attempt at getting people up and running.

Don't think it'll ever change, there will always be cakes for 50p in Tesco etc... It's a willpower issue :D

For eating plan I was eating at a deficit of around 750 cals per day on a TDEE of 2600... That'd entail two weetabix and a serving of whey protein for breakfast at home then a second breakfast of scrambled egg on toast at work. I'd then intermittently fast through to dinner time and eat typically something wholesome and homemade (Bolognese, roast dinner, chilli con carne) before hitting the gym at 19:30. The routine I used was a PPL routine (push pull legs), followed by 30 minutes fast cycling. I'd do this every night of the week :)

Took a tonne of effort but I feel a lot more confident now :D

Well done buddy, I went from 18st to 14st last year but fell into bad habits again so back to 17st. Just getting back onto the wagon at the moment. You should be proud though 5st in 8 months is great. Anything special you used of just the basics, less in more out :)

Ah you'll get back into it I'm sure. Summer always helps it slip back on with constant excuses for beer and BBQs!

Nothing special, energy in vs energy out I guess as you say!

I would have said the same before I managed to turn myself around, being fat is a choice, regardless of the "It's a disease" or "It's glandular" crowd...

ah but 5 months has suddenly cancelled out your 'horrendous fatty ignorance' of the rest of your life?
seems you are still massively ignorant with the disease/glandular comment anyway
#32
As long as they don't do it when the chase is on. ITV has absolutely nothing else of any value to watch at any time of day. And don't get me started on ITVbe.

Pretty much, powerful stuff looking in the mirror and not being ashamed.

Oh okay then, in that case at the start of the year I had an obesity disease but it cured itself around June, I'm over the moon!
