Sorry to hear about that.

I don't think you'll find a free download of RecordNow, except for a trial.

Contact Roxio and have your serial number and version requested at hand. They should be able to supply you with a replacement copy.
#5
do you still have all the cds that came with the computer.it might be on one of them.
#6
it didnt come with anything only the restore built into the system!

Try an alternative open source app like infrarecord from:
http://www.osalt.com/infrarecorder
or
http://infrarecorder.sourceforge.net/
Its free! :)

hope it helps :)

All depends where you got the virus from. If you don't use removable media (USB Sticks etc) and it was downloaded, formatting the HDD will definitely do the job.

If it has the restore built in surely the software is on that? Usually its done as a partition with all the preinstalled software on it - did the person who reinstalled windows use a disc instead of the recovery partition?

Depends on what virus it is.

Sometimes you need to low level format.

Guess I should ask, was it format or restore? that they did?

You should never need to low level format! Standard format and reinstall of software will do the job. Remember if you're reinstalling an OS, it's going to be from an install CD typically, so even if the virus is on the boot sector (which you should never have nowadays since you should all be turning on boot sector virus protection on the motherboard!) it won't be able to 'activate'.
