Ive made a really stupid mistake!

Totally my fault and feel really silly but i thought i had owned my car for over a year. I bought a new car yesturday on the scrappage scheme. Ive got my log book out when i got back and im just over a month off owning it a year! i know it was a stupid thing to do and i only have myself to blame but what do you think would be the best thing to do now?
Should i cancel the order completely? Ask them to finace the extra £2000? or ask if they will trade in my old car for £1000 that they were putting in and add the extra £1000 to the total?
Do you think they would hold the car or pick me one that hasnt left the factory yet until the car has been with me for 12 months?

Any advice would be great thanks

Phone the dealer and tell them today, I doubt whether the order has been finalised yet. I am sure they will be able to help you out.

I am sure if you wanted to change your order to a more expensive model they would help you.

Phone them and explain and ask if they'll honor the price and continue or wait until the car is eligible.

im sure they will sort something out for you i mean the last thing they want is you cancelling your order.

my dad bought a new car a few years back and because he wanted the latest reg number they kept it with them for a month so maybe they can do something similar..

Hi, dunno if this helps, but I was in VW showroom a couple o weeks ago & the sales guy there told me that as long as I order the (new) car by 31st March (end of scrappage scheme), then I am eligible for the scheme and then the dealer is allowed up to 3 mths to deliver the new car to me. Thus, my understanding is that even if the new car arrived at the dealer in the next few weeks, all u hv to do is wait until u've owned yr old car officially for a year & then complete the transaction (ie. the balance of the payment). Also, I hv bought new car's in the past & the dealers hv held onto the cars for a few weeks at their dealership & I hv then gone & concluded the transaction. In the current climate of falling cars sales I'd be very surprised if he cancels yr order!

yeah I agree with the above, I'm assuming you're buying a 10 plate and not some of there old 59 plates, that might be the only issue, if they're trying to get rid of stock they have on hand today. let us know how you get on?

ill let you know. its a 10 plate ive bought. i just hope there in a good mood lol

What am I missing here?
I thought your car had to be 10 years old to qualify for this. :?

and owned for at least a year

The dealer should have checked the hpi as soon as you said scrappage. Their fault.

I am surprised that they cancelled your order, they only had to defer delivery until your car was eligible at the end of March.
#16
Yeah!? You probably wont get the car before then anyway!

I cannot believe they did this, I've just done scrappage and they didnt take my old car until the day before new one came. All in it took 2 and a half weeks from start and that was quick so for the sake of a month they could have gone through the motions and had it all set to go when yr month is up. My friend has just took her car in and blatantly asked them to give her scrappage equivalent for part chop on a not new car and they did, might be worth trying but for a new car obviously (hope that makes sense) there are a lot of garages out there that will want your business so don't lose heart

Scrappage ends at March 31st

What if the car isnt eligible until 1st April??

Trust me the dealer will have explored every option to hang on to the deal, but if it doesnt qualify it doesnt qualify!

well ive just ordered another car from a different dealer! yay. Well the 1st dealer that cancelled didnt even try and help. they didnt even ask if i wanted to part ex the car or anything. at the end of the day they lost over £12k. I havent lost anything and the car i have reserved now is the exact same one i reserved before :) and i also got some stuff chucked in that the last dealer refused to do. Everything happens for a reason lol

Great well done, and people wonder why we're in recession, if the deal isn't actually gift wrapped and handed to them, some people don't work for it in any way!!!

Bloody salesmen I've got a whole list of stories about how useful they are.

A friend went in to buy a new 206cc and the dealer couldn't have been more disinterested so he went elsewhere bought a new car and went back to ask him what his problem was.

Dealer said "I didn't think you were serious"

Glad it worked out for you!
