Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has confirmed midfielder Javier Mascherano wants to leave the Anfield club.

The Argentina international, 26, has been linked with a move to Italian side Inter Milan and a reunion with former Reds boss Rafael Benitez all summer.

And, following his return to training after a post-World Cup break on Monday, he has told Hodgson he wants to leave.

Players like Mascherano never shine.

It's the little things they do that make them good players but fans often never notice it.

I agree - he is a damn good mid-field stopper. No dramatics, just hard tackles and a rueful smile as he ploughs through the opposition attack. Not pretty but effective!! A difficult player to replace without a lot of research.

Just waiting for the inevitable slagging about Liverpool and it's players {sigh}

Good, more attacking football to follow. More improtantly Torres has said he's looking forward to playing for us next season.

His injuries must be worse than expected if he doesn't think he can hack champions league football anymore.

Muntari isn't upto it really, he's not a premier league player. Would be interesting to see if Inter are willing to let Cambiasio leave or another one of their players

Looks like Young from Villa is next on Hodgson's shopping list

Liverpool agree fee with Aston Villa for England star Young.

Saves anyone getting their leg mangled in the premiership if he does indeed move :p
