jay-z, what is the point of him?

His last "song" was only good with the bits with Alicia keys singing on it and then you have him just shouting huh and yeah yeah every now and then and now his latest song is just an old one with him doing exactly the same, his songs only seem to be half decent when he isn't singing...its just noise

Nah I reckon his old stuffs not that bad.
What song are you referring to? (apart from empire state of mind?)
I find it pretty hard to do something like that you know.

the "new" one, I take it it's called forever young, that's what the original is called and it's not changed much
#10
lets be fair here, his album with linkin park was the nuts and he was rapping loads in that

I'm not disputng he might be a decent rapper but the fact that his last two releases the best bits on them are not him, yet he calls it his song, empire state of mind was a great song until he ruined it with his huh huh and yeH yeahs

Did you see how many akons songs are the same? Or how most of his songs are bout girls and the only good thing in most are the chorus yet ppl still buy it? All I'm saying is jay z deserves some respect I think he's contributed to rap

Hold on - Listen to

Jay - Z ft Chris Martin - Beach Chair

Now that is a good song.

Regardless of what you feel about the Jigga Man.

Look at the facts:

Aged 40
Worth over $150m
Sold over 40 million records.

Got to be doing something right ey?

He also signed up Rhianna which can't be bad.

I like Jay-Z and his music a lot, but I can understand why some might not appreciate an African-American, multi-millionaire, multi-platinum artist married to Beyonce and one of the most successful/popular artists of the last 15 years.
#23
I was never THAT keen on his music, except the one with Linkin Park and a couple of his older songs, but I am LOVING Blueprint 3, its the first album of his I have actually bought, but then it does seem to be a general mix up of other artists, I don't like his voice in particular

He is a good producer or whatever you call it, definitely :)
#24
does the fact that a top artist like alicia keys wanting to work with him not show that he must be quite good?
What is the point of him?,,,,,,,,,,,,, he makes music and millions of people buy it- most other rap artists mention him as the person who inspired them, i dont particularly like rap music but i can appreciate that he is top dog
#25
Not my kinda thing. Think i'd rather suffer the sound of someone's nails running down a blackboard, or gnaw on a wooly jumper with my teeth. Or even both together. But he's doing what he likes, and clearly a great proportion like what he does. He's also making a good lump out of it, so well done to him.

Jay Zed has a purpose. He's keeping Beyonce warm for me - one day soon she'll realise that she really wants a 42yr old application packaging engineer with three children and a liking of BF2, Typhoo tea and rich tea biccies. So Jay Zed is just there to keep her lubricated unitil she realises that I'm her bootilicious luvva,
#27
I can't understand how anyone can doubt him, and for the semi-life forms questioning why he puts people on the hooks of songs, it's because it allows him to do well commercially, if Jay-Z sung the chorus to Run This Town or Empire State of Mind not only would it sound awful but the song wouldn't chart as well, try listening to a few other songs on Blueprint 3 if you want some variety.

I also resent the implication that if you like Jay-Z then you must be a 'gangsta'.

It's that type of small-mindedness that was on show by some of the audience at Glastonbury, who walked away in 'protest' and missed one of the highlights of that year.

Just looking at my own iTunes library and Jay-Z is surrounded by:

The Jam
Jeff Buckley
James Horner
Jimi Hendrix
Jimmy Eat World
John Mayer
John Legend
Johnny Cash

so artistic integrity and talent is dictated by the amount of money you make?

Or maybe there's a bias against musicians with first names beginning with 'J'

If your point was indeed serious, can you get much more 'pop' than Jay-Z?

i have jay-Z on my ipod just now, beside pink floyd, u2, beach boys, bob marley, chemical bothers, GLC , rollin stones and even susan boyle. now theres a mix
