Hi we're due to fly with Jet2 in a few weeks. We have 3 seats booked but the Mother-In-Law has just decided that she doesn't want to go away now because it might be too hot for her. (Shame). I only ever take a carry on bag but the wife and MIL paid extra for hold baggage. As she has decided not to go now I thought I would be able to use her hold baggage allowance but thought I'd check with Customer Services 1st. Obviously there response was that the baggage was non transferrable!

However, this morning I was given the option to check in on line which I have now done. I also checked the Mother In Law in even though she isn't flying. 3 seats were assigned to us which means me and the wife can spread out a little. I now have 2 questions that I hope sopmeone can answer:

1) As we have checked in on line will they be expecting 3 of us to be flying? Im worried that they will have to delay the flight as they will be waiting for the mother in law.

2) As we have checked in on line, how will they know if I use the mother in laws baggage allowance? Is it worth risking it?

Thanks

you CANNOT use your mils baggage allowance whether you checked her in or not-she isnt flying, therefore you cant do this. Its actually a very serious offence to do so-all baggage must be matched to a passenger-you could actually be charged under terrorist law for doing this.

I know that sounds heavy handed but true.obviously if you have checked her in then jet2 will be looking for her-when you get to the airport advise them she isnt coming.

How can they match her to a bag when only 1 person is required to drop the bags off at the baggage drop?

because you are allowed to check in one bag per person that paid the allowance-whether one person drops them or not they are declaring that the bag belongs to someone else and commiting an illegal act-your mil will be on the manifest as having a bag in the hold, then when she doesnt appear the manifest will show they are carrying an unnacompanied bag which means they will then delay, take the bag off the plane and call the police-believe me,there is absolutely no way you can pull a fast one on this so dont even consider it-the consequences will be very bad.

They will almost certainly delay the flight, as she has been checked in, they will be one passenger short on their list.

I would contact the airline and tell them that she cannot now make the flight.

my stepson couldnt fly last year through illness so we rang thomson and told them but she told us just to let the baggage people know he wasnt flying in the morning or we would have to pay £140 cancellation fee so as long as you let them know when your booking in im sure things will be fine just tell them she has been recommeneded not to fly x

No they wont delay the flight regardless of her being checked in.
