Jimmy Carr (and others) - pays less tax than you

AberdeenDadAberdeenDad

I have just readon the Beeb that Jimmy Carr (comedian but not a funny one) uses a tax avoidance scheme, which PM Cameron calls "not morally right".

Using this scheme, someone with earnings of £280,000 would not pay tax of £127,000 but rather £3,500

Here is the link to the Beeb article click here

Prime Minister David Cameron has said the tax arrangements of comedian Jimmy Carr are "not morally right".

Carr is understood to be a member of a legal, but aggressive tax avoidance scheme, which is said to be sheltering £168m a year from the Treasury.

According to the Times, Carr told an audience on Tuesday: "I pay what I have to and not a penny more."

i am sure everyone would pay as little tax as they legally could to be honest and is it is legal surely carr and others that use similar methods are not doing anything wrong.

It is the scale of it that shocks me. For £280k earnings, I would have thought that with schemes you may save something, perhaps hae a tax bill half what it ought to be, around £60k tax bill, not as low as £3.5k

Don't blame the high earners for liquidating our economy....read your tabloids and stick to beating up on the working class.

I have not calculated it out, but £3500 tax bill would be roughly what someone on £25k a year would pay is it not?

Damn that jimmy carr. He's the reason the economy is dead and why I can't get a job. :(

Rich or poor, who willingly pays more tax than they need to?

Yes, him and his cronies, 1000 of them use this particular scheme, and if they all earned just £280k pa, then that is a mere £123,000,000 taken from the economy, or rather added into the Exchequers pockets by you and me ( assuming you are not on benefits!).

Nobody willingly pays more tax than they have to, at least if there is it can be only a few.

Rather the question is what should be fairly paid.

The majority of people cannot afford specialist tax accountants.

This will be forgotten by next year. Just like the goverment expenses. All of them got let off easily.

Legally, Jimmy Carr's tax scheme is dubious. Morally, it is completely wrong.

Still, as everywhere in life, tax avoider bashing isn't as popular as benefit fraudster bashing on here.
