Well im a uni student really but i got a job in the summer working in Maplin. Been working there a week now and im meant to be in 'training'. Now the guy who is senior sales i thought was really cool but then i found out hes been talking about me behind my back saying im too lazy and im no good. Even after i found this out he was coming up to me and joking. Whenever i ask him for help to find something or how to do something he gets all wierd with me, a lot different from my first couple of days. I am not really sure what to do. Dont want to speak to the manager about it cause apparently he thinks that im the same lol. I found out from this girl that works there cause we have kind of become good friends.

At the moment im really depressed cause of other personal things so im not really sure what to do. Really just feel like walking out and saying to the manager, that this isnt the type of place that i want to work in. Where if i do something wrong you decide to bitch about it, instead of telling me. I mean ive only been there about 2 weeks.

Just ignore it and prove that you aren't lazy to the boss/manager, Making the other guy look stupid.

Do you trust this girl though?, Could she just be bitching?

Silence solves nothing so speak up....first approach the so called senior sales guy and ask to see him in private and tell him about your concerns...put it this way "I'm sorry to have to mention this but I'm getting the impression that you are not happy with my performance in the job so could you please advise me where I'm going wrong and what I should do to improve my performance?"....that puts the ball straight onto his side of the court and is a non confrontational approach that usually works..remain calm and composed ...don't come out and make accusations of backstabbing just say that you want to stay in the job and are keen to foster good working relations with your colleagues...see how it goes.

Speak to HR about it.

does he have a case?

they generally wouldnt call u a lazy git if u wasnt one

maybe u aint putting enough effort in or impressing them

heres a piece of advice, no matter what job u start, for the first week or two be FRIENDLY to everyone and work like a machine possesed, first impression from people will be like WOW!!!

right do you know what your job description is?
kids nowadays need to be told what to do all the time
some of them dont show any initiative
we need people to think for themselves not being told what to do all the time
maybe he thinks you're lazy because you can't find work
if i were you i'd ask for job description and ask for your duties
if there is a quiet time look around and see what needs doing
shelves need tidying, products need pulling forward, restocked etc etc

I mean to tell you the truth i think im doing a decent job lol. Not to be boasting or anything. Seeing as ive only been there for such a short time, im expected to be like a fully pledged sales person even though i dont have a uniform yet! I do everything they ask but ill admit sometimes i make a mistake here and there. I mean it is only the start. I was thinking of approaching this Senior Sales guy and putting in a formal way, but then that would get the girl in trouble who told me as then he would know who told. Would also mean that next time he is bitching about me i wouldnt find out cause he wouldnt tell her

Sounds pretty much like a standard work enviroment to me...everyone bitching about everyone. lol

Until you get your feet under the table.

Keep your eyes and your ears open and your mouth shut.

:)

Always worked for me and I'm the type who will not be walked on :)

I'd agree with that!

Its the only thing that works, If you start moaning about people you will be seen as a problem and booted out.

Just make sure you always have the last laugh :)

When I started the job I'm at now.. a girl bitched about me.. saying i'd be no good... she got forced to moving jobs as she was infact the crap one.. everyone hates her.. she tried to get her old job back.. etc etc...
anyway, you wont have to be there long so just put up with it... I did and I feel really proud of myself for not giving up.. People that bitch about others are insecure they think it makes them popular but people don't really like them they just feel threatend by them... anyway.... i'll stop rambling.... just keep your head up and stick with it. :)

It is hard though lol. I mean im going through some personal things right now too which makes it even more harder. I mean even today i asked the guy for help and he kinda laughed at me as if im some sort of retard for not knowing it already. This crap going on as well as my personal stuff is really getting to me emotionally and physically. Im thinking of just going up to him and saying something like "I dont like the way your acting towards me, and if it continues ill have to escalate to a higher person like the manager and tell him of your behaviour" Or something like that. Its just all getting to me at the moment, pushing the wrong buttons if you know what i mean lol

Sounds like you need a break!!

How long is your probation?

If you are having 'personal' problems that could be affecting your work and attitude, without you realising it.
I suggest you sort out your personal problems if you can, then your work 'problems' may improve.

I dont think that my personal problems are though. Its just really this one guy this team leader guy who is being a bit of an idiot to me. Even the manager is getting on well with me and stuff. If he continues then ill just have a word with the manager or something
