was a bad challenge-def a red card, could have seriously injured Xabi...
people will rightly make a big deal about it because of his past and the fact he's notching up ANOTHER red card...he's a liability.
did i mention i think he's a thug?
#8
Alan Smith should have gone for the two footed lunge on Arbeloa too.
#9
i cannot understand how he is still in the game. The FA needs to stamp its authority, the end of his latest contract should be his last

He served his punishment, restricting his trade would have been overkill.

you say another like he has lots, have you actually noticed thats his first of the season! their is people in the prem who have far more but it doesnt get mentioned.

do a bit of research before you start to make assumptions

his last red card was actually the 2006/2007 season when he was still with man city!

info found here as proof premiership stats

Newcastle United were condemned to relegation by a biased referee and his clueless assistants on a bleak day at Anfield.

Late on, in the second-half, United midfielder Joey Barton was sent-off for what looked like a forceful challenge on Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso.

Alonso, who has been notorious for being at the heart of sending-offs this season, will undoubtedly be back for Liverpool next week, after putting in the performance of a lifetime at the Reds' home ground.

The Spaniard who is rumoured to be on his way out of Anfield should hop on a plane immediately and look up Executives from Warner Bros. or Universal Studios to further his acting career which has been absolutely stellar so far.

Alonso has been involved in over half-a-dozen sending-offs this season, and it was no surprise that it was him who acted his way into the heart of referee Phil Dowd.

A wonderful performance Xabi, everyone will say. But as a professional footballer - surely, that's not the way.

true , barton is an idiot , surprised shearer played him

Just looking at that list and Cantona has 6, assaulted a fan at a match and doesn't get anywhere near as much stick as Barton does.

Or Gazza who is an admitted wife-beater but still considered a 'national treasure' by some.

Oh, and Keane who actually set out to injure a fellow player.

Cantona had a temper but for the most part wasn't a dirty player, or a bad guy. This isn't even about playing football. As someone said earlier joey barton is a thug. I like him, i like him as a player. I USED to think people were being harsh on him but lets face it, all footballers are under the same pressure as joey barton, the reputation didn't come from no where.

putting cigars out in other players faces, beating people up in take aways, fighting on the training ground. This isn't even on the pitch. His brother done for murder. I hate to pigeon hole people but it seems to be in his genes? maybe not a bad guy, maybe good at heart, but somewhere in there there's a major dark side.

Shearer put faith in him, making room in the team for him. Shearer looked well miffed with him. The blokes a thug, and I'd be well happy if he never played for us again
