I got navman and that serves me fine, but each to their own and £85 for a tom tom one is a good price too

I was asked to find one for a friend and bought him the 4.3" version which they no longer do. That had great reviews too and was only about £57. He was well chuffed with it as he is a tyre repair guy for trucks and heavy machinery.

from reading the reviews, yes it was. They talk about TomTom7. There were links in the reviews when I bought it, to download it and they said it was free.

nope, not free, some people have downloaded a dodgy version and put it onto other satnavs
and it's not easy to do either, despite what some people say

No, you have to pirate it to put on that other satnav.

oh ok...they made it sound so simple. I got my info from the reviews so sorry if it is wrong.

I see, was wondering, based on the number of people who recommend TomToms or third party sat navs and suggest putting the s/w on it. Gave me the impression it was legally free (for some reason).

I knew I had copied and pasted some of the reviews....this is the site they recommended. No idea if it is still going..

• Bought F&H sat nav on the back of other peoples reviews. I managed to get iGO8 and TT7 installed onto a new SD card using the instructions in the reviews for this 4.3" and the 3.5" F&H SatNavs. I have the pre installed Top Dog software iGO8 and TT7 and all work well.

• After reading other reviews I got myself one what value for money now running Tom Tom 7 on it works like a dream could have paid three times as much for same thing. Lots of support on simplesatnav.com

• Just to repeat what has been written elsewhere, don't bother with the software it comes shipped with. Change to TT7. Please note that thepctailor is now redirected to simplesatnav.com. Register and go to the download area. Download version ".. 7.910.9185WE" and wait - it is over 800MB. It has everything you need including a very detailed set of instructions. If running Vista (as I do) make sure you run Muppetproof as administrator. It should take you less than 30 minutes to do the complete swap

• Easily installed Tom Tom with help from http://www.simplesatnav.com . Download 'TomTom 7.910.9185UK' file from download section. This zip file has all required files to install TT with installation manual.

I am not tech minded so no idea about zip files etc!

Zip files are just compressed folders - think of a folder of documents being squashed together to make them smaller. This makes them easier to transfer via the net etc.

You need to unzip the folder using the likes of WinZip or WInRar, it's very simple :) I think Windows has in-built decompression software though.
