yeh mine can vary from 5000 upto 20000 on a diff server similar distance,
#5
aol said the highest I could get on my line was 5mb. for years I plodded along with speeds of just under 2 then saw the light and now with o2 for 7 quid a month I'm just under 8mb with my uploads at just over 1mb.

moral of the story aol suck ass.
#6
I migrated over to O2 on an 8Mb connection, and mine started off at the 16Mb rate. They are probably just testing your line - and unfortunately your speed will go down to what you're contract states. It did with mine after a couple of days.

yeh im with eclipse i get like 6mb download and 0.700 upload,im gona move to o2 soon.

When I moved to Be, the connection speed was higher than what I paid for. I thought I bagged a huge bargain but then after a couple of weeks, it went back down to the speed that I paid for. I think they just need some time to adjust your connection.
#11
Sorry mate - it won't last. Be/O2 give you max speeds in the first few days of getting your connection. They will eventually throttle it back down. I don't have a reference for this - but remember reading it somewhere reliable.

Meanwhile - get all your big downloads done ;)

There seems to be an echo on this thread.

yeah like I said - eclipse is a great ISP, no problems there, just wanted something cheaper, so went to Be, and up jumped my speed.

Then you have a fault. Call Tech Support.

Be / 02 dont throttle the line.

And your 3 - is someone who doesnt use the service, you and someone who's connection was reducuced to what they were paying for.

What I was referring to was that the OP has subscribed to an 8mb connection and is getting far higher. That will stop. Read back in the thread.

OK... Understand what you are saying.

I thought you meant they give you a good connection at first, then throttle your line reduce line speed - because they can - not because you're getting what you've paid for. Bit unfair to criticise - (which to be fair it looked like).

What part of the statement below reads as me criticising BE or anyone else. You really should read things before you type sometimes.

Easy tiger.

I replied to this:

There is no reference to users on a lower line speed tariff being given better than they pay for to begin with. Maybe if it'd be made clear, it wouldn't have sounded like Be was being criticised.

I pay for a 24Mb connection. My Line speed hasn't been reduced. You may have realised from your own experience what he meant - but I certainly didn't and it wasn't clear when taken as an individual post.

To be fair, you need to read between the lines from Dan's post to get the gist of his surprise - though understand I didn't read the thread one post after another.
