you get a form from the post office and fill it out, the green part of your V5 counts as your V5

Did you not get the New Owner section of the V5 (Log Book)? With that, insurance and MOT certificate you'll have no problems.

Has to be a main post office

If it runs out end of the month you still have plenty of time
You should get your log book by then
I bought mine about the same time last month & log book arrived about 2 weeks later
& tax ran out end of june so didn't have a problem , just did it online

ou tell us the vehicle. You will need either the 16 digit reference number shown on your renewal reminder, or the 11 digit reference number from your Registration Document/Certificate (also known as the Logbook) and your vehicle registration mark (numberplate).

that is the point of this thread i dont have the reminder

You don't have the registration document?

If worst comes to worst then in 3 weeks time you will have to get it off the road temporarily. But a lot can happen in that time unless the Royal Mail go on strike

its been sent off i only had for 2 days

You shouldn't have the V5, but you must have the 'New keepers part' (that is your producer until you get the V5 sent to you) that has the document reference on.

So as I said in the first place, take the new keepers form, mot, money and insurance to the post office, fill out a car tax form and they will give you a tax disc...

Yeah, if he wants the tax disc sent to the previous owner. Only way he can do it without a full V5c is at a post office or DVLA centre.

Well didn't expect him to do it today, but yes you are right. DVLA are quite quick on changing details now even if it does take them a while to send out a V5.

But the new V5 would have a new number, the old number being tied to the address of the previous keeper. So definitely not safe to buy online till you've got the new one. Worth keeping in mind ;-) Should have the new one by the time he needs it anyway.

but the DVLA advert on the radio says, if you dont have the renewal form you cant get a tax disc.
Same as online you must have the renewal form number which i dont have.

http://www.taxdisc.direct.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/

Click apply for a tax disc, tick all the boxes yes then on the next page it says enter reference number OR reg number and V5c number.

As soon as you get your new V5c you can use it. Note the warning in red at the bottom of the page:thumbsup:
