Literally with the old white ones!

the 3 year applecare, if you can, cancel it!

Because you are a student, you already have the 3 year applecare as part of being a student.

What you've just payed for was that if something breaks or you need it fixed, they will come out and pick it up rather than you having to go to the store.

I bought it as well when I bought my macbook at xmas, but didnt find this info out til later on.

can be useful though, considering apple stores arent exactly common

I thought the idea was that you paid for the ipod but received a rebate of up to £130. You imply that the ipod was free ?

My nearest apple store is 90 miles away, would prefer to do it this way, same price as the petrol

I can appreciate some peoples arguments against the iMac - you can build a PC (even a hackintosh one) to a very high specification, far exceeding the iMac.. Getting far more value for money.. Sure you lose the "All in one" aspect, but it's not so much of a massive issue.

However..

When it comes to a laptop - it's not just about the components inside but also the build quality. To be honest, for me personally.. A laptops builds quality is probabley highest on the list of important things.

Aluminum macbooks are the best laptops i've ever owned, so fantastically put together. No other laptop comes close in my opinion.. I was hoping the HP Envy would, but after trying one out in Comet on the weekend.. Just still isn't quite there.

Yeah totally :-D
That's what you want to hear isn't it? ;-)

After all..
You did post in an online forum attempting to boast over purchasing an overpriced and underpowered laptop.

Underpowered for what??
#13
Well done mate, you'll love it.

Ive just upgraded from a white macbook (2007) to a brand new 17" MacBook Pro. Quite simply the best piece of hardware i have ever owed
#14
Remember resale value is incredible, great buy with all the little discounts in education, american express cash back and selling the ipod

Relative to the price of the laptop.
#16
not keen on macbooks at all, think theyre ugly and dont like the OS, not to mention the are hugely overpriced, but thats just me lol
banned#17
a 2 year old one sells for 700 on ebay, this new one is 770, so the resell value is amazing, any other laptop loses 2/3

Ok then find me a premium laptop of similar or better spec for less. I expect a very nice aluminium case or similar and something close to the 10 hour battery life of the MacBook Pro. He bought 13" so lets stick to that too. 2.4ghz core2duo processor, 4GB DDR3 RAM etc...

Oh and I'd like to buy it from a place where I can take it into the shop for whatever reason I want and get half decent support from. Oh and we'll factor in an approx TCO valuation too.

Don' forget the trackpad, not seen one of them on another brand of laptop.

To OP, you will love the Macbook, I used to be on the 'I hate Apple' bandwagon til I used one, then within a few weeks bought one through uni as well

Really? Implying someone might be homosexual because they bought a Mac?

You're clearly not Apple material:thinking:

Ah yes the trackpad is very nice but I fear some people only care about brute force power, interfacing with the machine is way down their list for some reason.
#25
Ive gotta agree with the trackpad sentiments

Simply the best you will ever use. Multi touch and gestures are so responsive and intuitive

Only issue i have is gaming, and that is probably due to production.. Difficult to keep an "All in one" up to scratch graphically, so the iMac / Macbook is ordinarily a good 1-2 years behind what you could put in a PC. I mean the iMac top range GFX Is a 4850, which was released 2 years ago on the PC platform.

But then you don't really buy a mac for gaming.. And if somebody does... whoops

Macbook /pros are decent for low/middle gaming, Tower Macs are good for high end gaming. Steam for mac is getting more games on here now.

Definitely never buy a Mac for serious gaming but then it never pretends to be a gaming platform. Sure it gets some decent games on there but it's strictly a casual gaming experience.

I can imagine the dismay of kids around the world when their parents bring home a new computer to discover it's a Mac. The same kids who will probably go on every forum badmouthing Macs.

Interested in what your background is with computers (what you'd used prior to a Mac and for how long) and why you couldn't get on with it?

Aye agree, i mean it'll play most stuff quite well.. I'll play Left 4 Dead on it when it's out, the 4670 in my (coming on Thursday) 27" iMac will run it at 90/100fps at high settings.

But if anyone is into gaming on their computer, Mac should really be avoided. Better off just building a PC in line with the compatibility list for hackint0sh. That way they can get the best of both worlds.. As providing your CPU / Motherboard and GFX are compatible, a hackint0sh runs as stable as you would an iMac..
