Just Dont Say You're English

Just Dont Say You're English

Goodbye to my English - So long my old friend!
Your days are numbered, being brought to an end.
To be Scottish, Irish or Welsh, That's fine,
But don't say you're English, that's way out of line.

The French & the Germans may call themselves such,
As may Norwegians, the Swedes and the Dutch.
You can say you are Russian or maybe a Dane,
But don't say you're English ever again.

At Broadcasting House that word is taboo,
In Brussels they've scrapped it, in Parliament too.
Even schools are affected; staff do as they're told,
They mustn't teach children about English of old.

Writer like Kipling, Milton and Shakespeare
Why are schools not teaching them - something to fear?
How about Agincourt, Hastings, Arnhem or Mons.
When England lost hosts of very brave sons?

We are not Europeans, How can we be?
Europe is miles away, over the sea.
We're the English from England, let's all be proud,
Stand up and be counted - shout it out loud!

Let's tell our Government - and Brussels too -
We're proud of our heritage and Red, White & Blue.
Fly the flag of St George or the Union Jack,
Let the world know - WE WANT OUR ENGLAND BACK!

There seems to confusion about the Union Jack - at some basic training depots around the British Isles, fresh recruits into the Armed Forces are told to remove the prestitched Union Jack from there uniforms as they have "not earned the right to wear it yet!"

Very Nice Poem. We do seem to be losing our heritage slowly.

I have never heard any other nationality call themselves English?? People are embarrassed by English attitude overseas!! - that's why you go on any European holidays and people have had to open Bars/Clubs like St. George's Pub and the The Union Jack Club to keep the English contained to these places. Have you ever heard a scotsman call himself English/British?? Hehehehe! :giggle:
