Just had a knock at the door

And a man just told me he's just run my cat over and killed her instantly. That's 3 cats lost to cars and 1 lost to illness in the last year. Not nice carrying a dead cat back for burial and telling your 4 year old the news.

How did he know it was your cat?

We have a dog, the bloke was distraught, but he must have been driving too fast like they always do on that round. Been driving 18 years myself and have managed to never hit an animal. He did random door knocking and a neighbour pointed him our way

awwww sad times :(

Oh my God, that nearly made me cry! I had a cat run over once when I was really young... She was severely injured but I was so upset my Dad felt guilty and spent ridiculous amounts on surgeries and stuff!! Poor guy! I feel really sorry for you, it's bad enough when they die of natural causes, but that's terrible.

Maybe you should consider that you don't live in a cat friendly area.

Thats awful, hope your lo is ok x

Yeah I know cul-de-sac's are awful places for cats.

Three cats lost to cars supports that statement, or is there more to it?
#14

As illogical as it sounds, the quieter the road the worse it is for cats. You never see a dead cat on a motorway but cats cross quiet roads and then run back across them if they get scared. I have a quiet lane by me and lost 3 in same place over the years. Now we lock ours in from dusk to give them a bit of a chance and been ok for last 2 years. You can get catflaps that work on the cats chip and automatically lock from dusk to dawn (not cheap, I know) if you can't lock them in manually. Sorry you've had a sad loss.

you never see dead dogs on motorways either nothing to do with it being busy

its to do with the fact most live in normal streets not beside motorways

Exactly why I will never own another outdoor cat.

I have four cats, two British Blues, one British Blue & White and one Blue Persian. None of them have ever been let out, apart from the garden. My parents have lost many cats because they are hit by cars, I couldn't go through that.

I'm really sorry to hear that! RIP cat
I've seen a dog being ran over on a main road, the car didn't even bother to stop! I was really upset over that, & I'll never forget it! The dog managed to crawled to the other side, & way crying! All I could do was tried to ring some organisation to help, but it was so late at night & ppl can't be bother! Really hope ppl would drive carefully

thats such a shame - heartbreaking. A pet is part of the family and for u to have to explain to ur wee one is just awful

Ran over a cat once, I saw it in good time and went to the other side of the road and slowed down but it ran along the fence line then darted across right underneath my car. Saw it flip over in my rear view mirror was horrible, killed outright. I took it to the vets was first thing in the morning but had to leave it outside with a note, I rang later and they managed to trace the owner. The vets told them I had taken it in and handed it to them in person.
