Kicking and screaming to come home.

Dropped her off at nursery, and she just got realy emotional, teacher said that the past 2 days she has cried also.

Broke my heart to leave her, its only till 3.
Anyone had any experiance of this before? Could she possibly be unhappy at nursery?

Shes 4.

She has been going since September with no problems at all

Why don't you ask her why she was crying? What has the Nursery nurse/ teacher said?

Aww no, that's really horrible for ya hun. It's not happened to me (my kids obviously can't wait to get away from me:lol: ) but I saw a kid at the school this morning crying her hear out not wanting to go - it's sooo difficult, but I'm sure she'll be fine:thumbsup:

she just said she wanted to come home, her teachers tried to comfort her whilst I went. I will obviously be speaking to them when I pick her up, was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

Has anything changed at home? It's a phase many little ones seem to go through. Hopefully a chat tonight will help you shed some light on the situation.

We had the exact same problem when my OH got paid off and then again when her little sister was born.
It settled down after a week or so but it was horrible as she normally loves it. We believe she did it because she thought she was missing out on fun at home.
Hope she gets back to normal soon x

Thank you, I wonder if thats why, maybe some sibling rivalry. Some mom&daughter time may do the trick

Hi, my little boy started nursery september, and was absolutely fine until after xmas, when sometimes he'll cry and cling on to me when its time for me to leave him - when i ask him why, he just says over & over that he doesn't like it! but when i go to pick him up his teachers say hes been absolutely fine & he comes out all smiles and tells me all about his morning! I've put it down to him just being tired sometimes, he's always grumpy when he hasn't had enough sleep, and i think he just feels like he cant be bothered - pretty much like myself when i'm tired :) i dont have any younger children and my two older girls were never like this when they started school. Bet your daughter will have been fine when you go pick her up at 3 o clock! :) x

Yeh definately, Bryony loves her sister to bits but whenever she starts playing up I make sure we get one on one time, its a huge adjustment for them, especially when they have 4 years on their own with you. But the age gap is good lol, couldnt cope with 2 kids in nappies! x

1. Have you watched from a distance to see how shes interacting in nursery, if they wont allow this, have they somthing to hide.
2. Have there been any changes at home recently, the smallest thing upsets a child.
3.do you read to her at night time, the best time to find out if they have any worries is then.
4My big bag of worries, is a book available in all bookshops, really helped my son recently over a very simple trauma that was upsetting him greatly.
5does she really need to be parted from you at present? do you work, she may be feeling a little insecure.

I work in a nursery and this sort of emotional out cry from your daughter is quite normal, lots of children go through this. she may just be feeling a little bit sensitive due to your little one being at home and herself at nursery please don't worry to much but allow her to go through the emotions and the nursery staff will always call you if they think something else is the matter. Be brave she will settle down.

As others have said, she'll settle down.

You could try making it more of an adventure for her, such as getting her to tell you the way to the nursery school, asking her if she wants you to bring anything with you when you go to pick her up (maybe a little treat like some smarties or something similar?).

Also, getting her to talk about what she did that day will help her to realise that she's actually enjoying it.

Are there any other 'attendees' that live near you that you could share the journey with? This may help her to settle before she even reaches the nursery school.

Aww sweetie, I know how hard it is to leave a child crying like that.

If she has been going happily since September, ask yourself if there is something that could be unsettling her and making her more clingy? Is she showing signs of stress at other times ( wetting the bed at night for instance when she has been previously dry ) or is it just at nursery?

If its a more general stress then you need to consider what it is that has unsettled her and work on rebuilding her confidence and happiness.

If something has happened at nursery ( perhaps a teacher has told her off or another child has scared her in some way ) then so long as you and the teachers can isolate whatever the issue is and work on it, things will all even out again very soon x x x
