ive been in iphone land for the last 2 year but am tempted for the desire hd but the thing that puts me off from moving to android are the apps.
Are they as crap as people say. Compared to apples, do they really suck that much??

The android market could be improved, it needs weekly top lists and a few other things.
however if you use other programs like Appbrain combined with a website or 2 instead of the android market app, it does become a much better experiance.

does android have scrabble?

Another thread for Apple Vs Android fanboys to battle over

Theres no battle to be had - the android marketplace is abysmal. It's holding the phones back.
#7
and there you have it, vibeone says its crap so it must be so.

Depends what you want.
I see the apple ads on tv and not sure any of the apps have made me go, wow, but nor have any android ones.
The android ones i have, i use and like but it's horses for courses.
It is not easy to navigate but if you know the name of the app you can search by it, i don't know how apple's user interface is.
Not a fan boy btw, not had the pleasure of anything apple since i am loathed to have itunes on my pc whereas android is found as a usb device, you drag, drop and move on.
You're best off going to a shop or asking a friend who has android can you try it out

He is actually half right.
The implementation is not great and the big developers are only just turning theiir hand to android (since it has now taken over iphone in marketshare) and also because of the use of itunes (and not being able to get refunds on apps), developing for iphone OS is alot more profitable.
combined with the apple head start its not surprising.

its a combination of a lot of things that make the Android marketplace not that great.

Yours sincerely a massive android fan.

I have an android phone, the apps arn't that bad. I'm sure for every iphone app theres an android equivalent and vice versa.

If your tempted by the desire, i say go for it, try something new, be bold!

I assume you meant iphone was losing share to android... because current market share data puts iphone well ahead.

I accept the gap is being closed - but your statement wasnt true.

Android handsets are outselling Iphone by over 5% of the smartphone market share and rising.
(low 20s vs high 20s)

You are getting your words muddled. Read your original post. You talk about market share, now you talk about outselling.

Currently, iphone has a bigger share than android. Whether or not android is out selling iphone at the mo - that may be true, i don't have those stats at the mo.

OP what apps do you want?

i like word games, like scrabble, news apps, snooker ones
also is there an app for hotukdeals and is it possible to bookmark a webpage as an app? ie: say if i wanted to load up a specific website is it possible to save it as an icon on the phone menu, like the iphone?
banned#19
what I find epic in general is.... 90% of the people that have "Smart phones" nowadays don't know **** about most of the apps and don't care about them either.

they just want to play games and update their facebook.

both operating systems are sufficient for your typical needs OP.

omg android outselling iphone or vice versa wah wah wah wah, grow up lads, real men use their phones to text birds with, end.

view websites offline automagically (uses "read it later")

and yes you can have bookmarks as shortcuts on the desktop

with android you also have the benefits of widgets that you can put on your desktop to show you the weather, to do list, facebook updates, twitter, music album loads of things
banned#22
btw op the things i linked are just quick googles, that's not all there is to offer via android.

you should also get the ****ing awesome skyfire browser which supports flash and viewing websites in full on your mobile. something you can't and probably can't ever do on your iphone.

oh and OP you can also set shortcuts to map navigations on the home screen, so you just press the icon and it can navigate you home automatically or you can set a shortcut to navigate you to the theatre that you need to go to next week so it's ready and waiting.

no problem mate. I'm sorry that you have a bunch of **** spoiling your thread though.

one thing i would definitely suggest is to set up a google account if you don't have one already, and subscribe to RSS Feeds via "Google Reader" which comes along with your google account, you can subscribe to the "HOT" list in hotukdeals or "NEW" etc, you can subscribe to BBC News, or your region, and also the snooker news, tech news such as engadget and you can also subscribe to things like word of the day or joke of the day etc pretty much anything you see on the web including blogs and stuff

then you can use the app called "newsrob" to sign into your google reader account and download all that content onto your mobile so you can read it offline. I pop my newsrob app in the mornings via wifi at home then read all the news on the train where there is no reception.

then next time you sync the newsrob app it sets all the articles you have read to be read in your google reader account. and if you read some articles in your reader account on the PC then when you sync it will remove it from your phone.

nope, but it does stop you from being **** at trolling. you should invest in one cause at the moment you just sound like a dick with no money.

enjoy your nokia 1100 or whatever crap you have.

Apps are more novelty than anything anyway.

Most games just don't work on such a small screen with limited buttons.

Although Angry Birds and Flight Control are amazing!
