Take off the faceplate, under the discdrive (on the right side under the drive) there is a "keyhole", have a look in it...and
If the 2 wires in there are yellow it can´t be flashed
 Hope you got a flashable one...
#2
they are yellow :x *cries*
#3
Oh ****. Can you return it to the shop and swap for a different one?
#4
Unlucky mate.

Out of interest when did MS start blocking firmware mods, which consoles are affected?
#6
i can send it back, damn i really wanted one that can be flashed =(

Send it back then, get a refund and buy one in store.
Check the second link from my last post and get one with a LOT number (on the box of the console) lower
than where the Liteon drives started to show up. You should be fine then
Some shops will maybe even let you have a look before you buy but the LOT number will do the trick just fine.
Try a shop that doesn´t specialize in consoles as they will probably have older stock.
#8
Any shops in particular? im desperate lol
#9
LOL well I suggest Asda, Tesco, Argos, Currys etc. You may have more luck there than at GAME or Gamestation...
#10
Basically where ever you get to see the box and take it to the till.
#11
Yep, take a list of the lot numbers from that list and if you find one
with an old drive grab it and **sings** "Run to the Tills"
:whistling::-D
#12
Do tesco actually have the consoles in the boxes on show then? or are they empty and they fetch you another?
#13
It's funny that I have one of the first Xbox 360s and I don't have a clue about flashing.

No idea, if they bring you one from the back ask for a low lot number.
If they only have new consoles with the unflashable drive go to the next store...
#15
looks that way, i need to find old stock!

I mean i would buy second hand but i dont wanna risk it
#16
massmail666
so most 360's now are unflashable?

Yeah, the new ones are. Also M$ seem to exchange the drives on consoles
that get sent in for RROD fixing, no matter if the drive is broke or not!
Looks like they couldn´t find a way to ban anymore and invested in someone
developing a drive that can´t be flashed instead (who knows, someone may
be able to flash it in a few months time. Probably not though)
#17
Well my core has just died on me, ive never ever had the RROD issue ever! it just wont read the disks now so im thinking of getting a new laser
But im still after an elite that can be flashed grr!!!!
#18
Well if it doesn´t have the RROD and the drive still spins ok (which means the motor is still fine)
a new laser should do the job :)
#19
Interesting re: MS changing the drives on repairs.

I feel all the more priveledged to own a flashable one now (though I haven't flashed it yet - prob the only thing in my house with circuitry that hasn't been modded, yet ;) )
#20
Yeah...I just bought a flashed Elite from someone on here. First I wanted to sell our flashed pro console
but I´ll keep it now in case one of them RROD´s someday. Always good to have a backup...better safe than sorry ;)
#21
well actually i think ive damaged the laser ribbon as well, as the lasers not moving along the rails, it was about an hour ago! but not anymore =(

Im gonna risk it, buy a new laser and laser ribbon, if no joy ive lost £15 but its worth a try cos ive got no xbox to play on! Grrr!

The RROD is the best damn reason for anyone not to validate a warranty. I mod everything just for the sake of it / the knowledge gained while doing so but I've thought twice about doing the 360 and had to be careful to get a Falcon. What a joke!

Good going Microsoft!! :x
#23
Yep true. But i gotta say the falcon consoles run nice and cool.
After 8hrs of play its nowhere near as warm as our old console (that rrod´d after 8 months) after only 20 mins!
So I´m hoping it won´t RROD...
#24
Which of the xbox's run quietest? is there a difference? I've heard they are quite noisy
#25
The Falcon ones are usually quieter than the old consoles but you always get exceptions.
I don´t find it as bad as some people make it out to be. When you game with sound on
you won´t really notice it.
#26
Well ive just ordered 3 more elite's from littlewoods and theyre all the same batch number as before, oh well i thought id try my luck but knew what to expect!

going back!
#27
It shouldn't be long for some1 to hack this drive. Every time MS make a new drive there's no flash straight away. If they can put the keys on the drive there must be a way of taking them off and spoofing another drive.
#28
Yeah it took them over 6 months to crack the BenQ drives...BUT
these new liteon drives are not like the others before....
